Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
Is Hamilton within Schumacher's margin of error? Probably. However, as Invade states in his post a small, consistent advantage leads very often to clean sweeps. Button was a bad 2008 from sweeping Barrichello and Hamilton was a bad 2011 from sweeping Button. This isn't quite what I said, or what I ...

Re: Who are the BEST QUALIFIERS on the grid?
Also, didn't Verstappen start to develop a very decisive advantage over Ricciardo through 2017 and 2018? Didn't he start to carve out something like a 0.2 second advantage? If so, that's quite immense against someone of Ricciardo's calibre, who is a very highly regarded qualifier. Not so much 2017....

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
To clarify my position for any poor soul who is interested... If Hamilton and Schumacher played out their careers at the same time, as same-age contemporaries, and happened into comparable situations of opportunity, who would come out ahead? F1 throws enough BS at drivers that there is an awful lot ...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
Hands up if since reading / contributing to this thread, you've changed your mind over who's the best out of MS and LH? I've shifted from a position of it being a toss-up with Schumacher prevailing over time to a narrow but consistent Schumacher edge. Although, I'd put this down to team dynamics an...

Re: Official Sebastian Vettel thread
Does Nico Hulkenberg going AM put pressure on Vettel? That's a high profile reserve driver! I don't think so, but if Vettel doesn't improve signficantly on that opening weekend you have to wonder at what point would the team consider subbing Nico. It's way to early to judge Vettel yet, but if he's ...

Re: Who are the BEST QUALIFIERS on the grid?
Some people have decided that Verstappen is the fastest driver in the history of mankind because of the way he handles his teammates. There is a movement that wants to paint Max Verstappen as the second coming of Schumacher rather than the guy actually matching and surpassing his records (who they ...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
One aspect of mental strength where both Schumacher and Hamilton are ferocious is the desire to keep winning and winning. We don't know, but I doubt someone like Ricciardo has this trait. If he had joined Mercedes instead of Hamilton in 2013/14 then by this point he'd have probably been sated and lo...

"instrumental", yep that's a common one too. I just find it frustrating that there are no examples of the kind of things he did. If I was to go as far as describing a member of my team at work as "instrumental" I like to think I'd be able to then cite plenty of examples that justify that. Things li...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
The notion that Hamilton is mentally weak is one of the most absurd currently being pedalled in all of sport on the internet right now - lol. Acting out? Sure. Sometimes volatile? Yes. Mentally weak? No. Mentally less strong than Schumacher? Maybe. But then again maybe not. Mental strength manifests...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
I think the whole Rosberg-Schumacher dynamic says a lot more about Rosberg than it does Schumacher, which is then bolstered quite reasonably with what happened afterwards with Rosberg-Hamilton. ... that Nico Rosberg was a very fine F1 racer, who was able to produce admirable performance against two ...

I'm legit confused about how people could be confused about Verstappen having a very solid argument for being the best qualifier on the grid. I guess it's true. Years means more than one I suppose, and he's the best since the 2019 crop. But OK that's a cheeky answer. We all know the sort of cache such a statement is generally supposed to carry. Years meaning... much more than one. It's a strange claim to make after just one race, especial...

Also, Void, part of me wonders if some arrogance cost Verstappen? What if he just assumed it didn't really matter? Re: Hamilton's Sportsmanship (split from Bahrain 2021 Race Thread)
I think Max is similar to Kimi but more outwardly brash. Does what he wants, doesn't do what he doesn't want to do. Doesn't say things because other people want to here them and won't play ball with the media (Verstappen refuses to appear on drive to survive) unless he wants to. Also a fan favourit...

I think Max is a very straight and honest chap. Except Vettel turns it into a real caricature. His skill in this area far surpasses the others. With further time to reflect, and given a recent piece on THE-RACE*, I think it's obvious that Alonso is not particularly close to the limits of the car or his potential yet. He'll be much better within a few races. In terms of absolute performance I'm not sure his lap was even top-5. It was probabl...
