Re: It's the tyres. Always has been...
Without wishing to completely derail this at the first oppertunity, Pirelli design the tyres to the FIA's mandate. If the FIA wanted super durable tyres, they would just ask Pirelli to make them like that rather than ditching them for Michelin. Chasing one decent race with new tyre specifications i...

Yes he's finished. After Australia, I posted in the official Vettel thread saying he would leave at the end of the season. I was laughed out of the forum but now everything I thought might happen is happening. The Vettel ego simply won't take this. Here's my revised prediction - Alonso will be in t...

Brundle's column on SkySports was a good read this morning, but the most interesting part for me was his comment about the information he obtained from the teams on the tyres. They were lasting. The legendary British weather delivered a kind temperature and along with a newly resurfaced track (and p...

Re: Improving Monaco? Just get rid of the seafront chicane!
I don't even want to imagine an F1 car going full beans from Poitier all the way into the wall at Tabac with zero runoff. Nothing will create decent racing at Monaco. It is a procession and always will be but we can't/wont get rid of it. On second thoughts I think you're probably right. It's too na...

Improving Monaco? Just get rid of the seafront chicane!
Monaco is still the Jewel in the crown and delivered a somewhat exciting race this year, but it's still far too processional. I watched a video on Autosport about how Monaco could be improved, and frankly, the ideas were ridiculous. The simplest solution surely is just to alter the track layout by r...

After three races, Kimi Raikkonen is the only driver outside the top five to have scored points in every race. Honestly, I can barely believe how unstuck Vettel has become. It's happened before in single races, but it's just every race now since Belgium, and that was really more of a one-off in between Germany and Italy. He needs to get his head screwed on, and fast, if he wants to still be considered at th...

Spot on from Mercedes. Doesn’t feel great but absolutely brutal and necessary. This sport is a funny game and a Dnf down the line could turn championship on its head. Once it’s sealed for Hamilton Bottas will be given his win back rest assured.

Re: Is there any doubt anymore about Hamilton vs. Vettel?
It does. It moves him closer to Alonso IMO but as Alonso hasn't had the opportunity to do the same you can't compare. Why would you assume Alonso couldn't. I also have to say I pretty much discount races and championships won between 2014-16 as any indication of greatness. No competition. For me to...

I think this is a good move. Renault know how to win, and Dan now has the only likely available Works seat. If he stayed at Red Bull he was set to become Webber 2.0. He knows Max is Red Bull's man, just as Vettel was. Red Bull Honda can also be considered a works team. McLaren changed to Honda beca...

Yeah I second this. Gut instinct counts for a lot and as I was reading about his negotiations with Red Bull it didn't feel right - I suspect he felt the same.Invade wrote:Thank goodness he got himself out of there - that's my initial impulse.

Re: 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thr
Debating the drivers and cars is mostly pointless, it’s all about the tyres. Red Bull are the best at preserving rubber probably as a result of not overheating, hence they struggled in cooler conditions at getting the tyres in the operating window. Merc are harshest on tyres and therefore able to ge...

I think its a bit unfair to blame Mercedes for this confusion on strategy. Ferrari created their own problems here. Vettel May have binned it in the wall, but pitting Kimi was a blatant attempt to put a roadblock in front of Hamilton, and that led to the skewed strategy and subsequent hold up on track. They are so concerned with effecting rival progress they sometimes forg...

I've heard loads of similar apologies before up and down the grid - things just get amplified when you're a front runner in a championship fight, or when people don't like a certain driver :) But Mercedes should be copping this in my opinion and Hamilton is justified in his anger. Bottas and Hamilto...

Big swing in the championship. Merc caught flat-footed again with the safety car and would have cost Hamilton the win but the mechanical issues seem to be to a level where they were never going to make it. Lots of engine failures for this new unit... For Ferrari, this was a potential win but I thin...

Boring races? People have short memories...
I thought the French Grand Prix was pretty decent to be honest. A mistake by one of the title contenders led to first lap chaos and subsequent charge through the field, while there was plenty of mid-pack action, even without the artificial DRS zones. Yet reading through this forum and twitter I see ...

Alonso deserves this. There’s no such thing as an easy Le Mans win. To win Le Mans first you have to beat the track. Taking into consideration his performance last year at Indy 500, he’s currently the best racing driver on the planet.
