Not George's finest hour this weekend, but at least he has accepted he was at fault (for accusing Bottas, the incident was a racing one): CN2vMSKlPNi https://www.instagram.com/p/CN2vMSKlPNi/?igshid=19mpe3m9k2zad Also, the idea that there is a rift with Hamilton can be put to bed: CN3NelODZhu

Re: Driver(s) of the Day - 2021 Emilia Romagna (Imola) Grand Prix
So why all the votes for Max ? Strange viws on what makes a good drive on display here. . HAM started on pole but finished 2nd. VER started P3 but finished 1st. HAM made a massive mistake which cost him enormous time. VER made a mistake which could have cost him a couple of positions but LEC wasn't...

Re: Driver(s) of the Day - 2021 Emilia Romagna (Imola) Grand Prix
I just have Max and Lando. The only two that made sense frankly. Stroll did a solid job, but was penalised for passing outside the track, so I don't think I can give him the nod I've switched my vote from Stroll to Leclerc because I was unaware of the penalty at the time, and Leclerc has said he co...

Re: Mercedes vs Red Bull - 2021
Red Bull were clearly the fastest car in Bahrain, but their issues put them within rreach of the Mercedes on race day. This weekend, in dry conditions, the Red Bull were fastest - but in today's conditions the Mercedes was faster. Hamilton was catching Verstappen prior to his incident, and even if ...

Re: Driver(s) of the Day - 2021 Emilia Romagna (Imola) Grand Prix
The official driver of the day was almost spot on for me (Norris -> Verstappen -> Hamilton) however I am going to swap out Hamilton for Stroll (it was nearly Leclerc). While I disagree with the idea that Hamilton was 'lucky' as while it is true he benefitted from the safety car, the consequences of...

Strange to see a teammate so close to Verstappen. Almost assume it's a poor lap by Max. Perhaps Max isn't the Schumacher to Hamilton's Hill after all... Lol I would never rate Hill that highly but he's a nice chap. I don't think Hamilton vs Verstappen is comparable to any past rivalry tbh Surely Se...

Re: 2021 Emilia Romagna (Imola) Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
Mercedes look marginally faster to me. It will take an absolute banzai lap from Max to take pole, Abu Dhabi 2020 style. This kind of aged well if anything it was the opposite that happened, if that had been Perez stuck in 8th and not Bottas I guess we can imagine the kind of rhetoric being used. I ...

Re: Emilia Romagna GP 2021 - Qualifier of the day?
Many contenders today, the standout performers were Russell, Norris, Leclerc and Hamilton, with Perez getting an honourable mention for out-qualifying Max on merit sooner than anyone expected. Ultimately, you have to keep it in the lines, so despite Norris's probably being the best lap, it wasn't a...

Further to my earlier comment it looks like Red Bull brought nothing but sand in their hand luggage and it is going to take a miracle lap from anyone who isn't in a Red Bull to deprive them from being on pole.

The translation just makes things sound even weirder, if possible. There's something being hidden from view, although I don't know what -- some sort of conflict between Noda's camp and the series organizers, maybe, or personal issues that they don't want to air. The issue is that Japanese is a cont...

Re: Hamilton's Sportsmanship (split from Bahrain 2021 Race Thread)
I think all current drivers would have learned from the Hamilton/Spa incident. Max pace and tyre offset was pretty strong here. I think most would have expected him to get the job done again. I'm sure he gave the place back as quickly as possible so that they could race 1-2 for a resonable number o...

You're moving the goalposts here - you bring up the experiment, and then make excuses for its validity when questioned. Early days, but it's looking like Ferrari didn't get enough recognition here... We'll see if Sainz can stay this close to Leclerc over a whole season, of course. But I'd say he's exceeded most predictions by a comfortable margin so far. Indeed like for like we have to consider that he did better th...

No, I'm only comparing the defense argument - use it in whatever context you see fit, it still doesn't work. That you're making excuses for his behaviour says far more about your own moral standing than it does about Hamilton's sportsmanship, or lack thereof. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_e...

Ah, the old "only following orders" chestnut - didn't work in Nürnberg, doesn't work here. Hamilton wasn't instructed by Ron Dennis or Martin Whitmarsh to lie - and even if he was, he had a choice, and he took the easy way out. To claim that it was due to coercion or other mitigating factors doesn'...

The difference I guess is that Hamilton was directly involved, while Alonso wasn't. Alonso benefitted and I am pretty sure he could've/should've/did clock it (since they short fuelled him), but he was not involved directly. Hamilton said one thing after the race on camera, then said something else ...

I disagree, I think the only reason he wasn't banned is that he was the new world champion. The "only following orders excuse" butters no parsnips with me I'm afraid. Very well summarized by Will Buxton: "The argument, to which I subscribe, is you cannot call one permissible and the other not. I voted for Charles. That lap was stunning, 0.6s up on his team mate who must be wondering where that came from. We do this for the race, so why not do it for qualifying too? I figure that is makes more sense for qualifying to just select one driver rather than 3 as we are only assessing a handful of laps vs a race's worth.
