Re: Official 2013 winter testing thread

Remember when I told you I was going to look at some numbers? Here's a sample. Re: Dr. Marko - Danica not good for F1

I did do that, over several days and many posts. Its an evolving opinion, and the latest one included input from other posters. Can't do all that in one go from the beginning. Its a conversation, it goes back and forth. I'm not attempting to "wind up" anyone, I'm attempting to explain the context in...

Re: Dr. Marko - Danica not good for F1

I don't think she's a good enough driver for F1 because her best results in IndyCar were on ovals, and her best results in Nascar sanctioned series are in restrictor plate races. There are few plate races across a Sprint Cup season, so she will need to improve her performance on short and intermedia...

Re: Dr. Marko - Danica not good for F1

How can you measure her performance without understanding what she is performing in? Its like Dr Marko pointing out that her road course results in IndyCar were not so good. Some of us were pointing out that her speedway/plate results tend to be better than her short track results, so making any con...

Re: Dr. Marko - Danica not good for F1

How can you discuss Danica and a potential role (or not) in F1 without understanding the context in which she is competing now? That's all we're talking about. You were veering off topic talking about Jeff Gordon, Scott Speed and how a NASCAR car works. That has nothing to do with Danica, Marko and...

Ever stop to think they deliberately word things ambiguously to allow some room for real development? I don't think the rule writers are as dumb as they get credit for being. If that were true Ashley, then they wouldn't crack down on teams every time someone finds a loophole that's worth exploiting...

Re: Nationwide crash @ daytona

Yeah, sure, but its not sailing that far away if its first been tangled in chain link fence and wire. If the big round black object that flies through the air near the top of the fence went through the fence, why isnt the top of the fence damaged? It was fine. That's all I'm sayinnnnnn. The fence's ...

Re: Nationwide crash @ daytona

Larson's car was getting hit at some points like a third of the way across the track. The wall doesn't hang out far enough for that - remember the track is falling away from it, not flat. The start/finish flag gantry hangs out further than the fence, and that only covers MAYBE a car's width of the t...

By transparent I meant so that we can read them, and know what the debate is about first hand rather than read a reporter's synopsis of what he thinks the directive might say. Re: Nationwide crash @ daytona

Then where did the other one come from? There was one stuck IN the mangled fence. And I still see one sail clear over top in every video. If it went through, based on its height, there would have to be damage to the top of the fence, which there wasn't. If it went through lower, none of the rest of ...

Even the teams further back have speedway specific chassis. Scott Speed (the best driver ever), for example, mentioned yesterday that he played it super safe in the end because he was in their only speedway car.

Re: Renault engine mapping "clampdown"

When the FIA issued the non-public technical directive on this subject last year, the reports were that it specified the teams must choose a "standard" engine map used at one of the four opening races, which must then be approved by the FIA, and then torque curves above 6,000rpm on subsequent maps m...

Why would Indy drivers want to run in GP2? That's not aspiring to do better. Most of the kids in GP2 would die for an Indy seat. Speedway cars are not identical to the non-plate cars, and the physical racing is completely different. Indy cars are similar in that they run completely different body work for ovals vs. road courses and street circuits. The teams are more than competent at running and setting up both. It is absolu...

They don't absolve the relevant parties from liability entirely, but anyone bringing suit would have to prove those parties were negligent in some way to get anywhere. Those parties also have gobs of insurance for the same reason.

Re: why few days of testing so much important???????????????

A team like RBR could have a small test team running different tires at non FIA tracks to collect tire-independent aero data, or test reliability of components. RB could fund it instead of the team, and the employee contracts have confidentiality clauses. No branding on anything (or even retro brand...

No I mean to get INTO any facility you sign a waiver at the gate, no matter what you are there for, and when you buy a ticket, you are agreeing to the same terms and conditions. It will either say so on the ticket, or be posted wherever you buy it.

Its not the fence - its the cars, and the way the races play out. Those cars dont break up like a composite monocoque and body car does, and the technology to keep the wheels tethered better just isn't there yet. The inevitability of a last lap crash is a consequence of the way the rules for car des...
