Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
Hands up if since reading / contributing to this thread, you've changed your mind over who's the best out of MS and LH? Or is it a very interesting thread with lots of good input but let's admit it, we all have our opinion and nothing's going to change it! ;) This isn't a criticism, just what I bel...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
Another aspect that hasn't received any discussion is just how much of an asset Ross Brawn was to Schumacher. There have been other technical directors and teams that were as good as Rory Byrne and his colleagues in F1 history (people could cite Chapman, Newey, Barnard, Murray, the Mercedes technic...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
One aspect of mental strength where both Schumacher and Hamilton are ferocious is the desire to keep winning and winning. We don't know, but I doubt someone like Ricciardo has this trait. If he had joined Mercedes instead of Hamilton in 2013/14 then by this point he'd have probably been sated and l...

Hamilton is mentally very strong. Just in a totally different way to the likes of Schumacher.
In character I always think Hamilton is very similar to Mansell. Especially earlier in his career.

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
Yes, that is a myth, really. It started out with some projections than Schumacher with an ideal season could have matched Rosberg (without assuming an ideal season for him as well, of course). And over the years, the mantra was developed that he was better than Rosberg, which is as false as the cla...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
I can't really comment on something I didn't watch and DTS has a reputation for somewhat stretching realities. What's being put about can be perhaps be seen as equally unreliable but it's being put out there that Bottas deliberately gave Verstappen a tow against the teams wishes to better advantage...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
You have me at a disadvantage because I don't have access to the new series, all I hear is titbits like Bottas admitting to what he did. Now tell me did Bottas choose to be 6 tenths slower than Hamilton in qualifying or was he instructed to be that much slower because you seem to have better access...

Re: Sprint races to replace Saturday qualifying?
I fear it's going to be here to stay. More people will undoubtedly watch on Friday now actual quali happens then and more people will watch on Saturday because it's something new. That's what the powers that be are after. They won't care if it makes the product poorer. Only if it makes it more salea...

Re: Who are the BEST QUALIFIERS on the grid?
Nobody ever seems to allow for a drivers current form. In pretty much all other sports, competitors have good and bad years and these are taken into account. This never seems to happen in F1. Just because driver A beat driver B a certain number of years ago and now driver B is beating driver C, it ...

Re: Extreme E in the desert - Live!
I dont get it. Its too gimmicky. Its trying to be different things at the same time. I would get it if it was the electric rally championship it would make alot more sense. But why a driver change. It's a gimmick that's not needed. Just bring in 2 cars and have the ladies racing in the series along...

Bottas race pace was exactly equal to Hamiltons, funny how so many jumped on Bottas’ back for this race. I feel Lewis has more to come in this car. It usually takes him 3-4 races to warm up. It might take longer this year with no real pre season. http://en.mclarenf-1.com/index.php?page=chart&gp=105...

So, in short - he has demonstrated his talent in a lesser car. Like Vettel did in Monza 2008? I'm not sure what you are relating this to exactly but you do know that Vettel's teammate qualified 4th for that race. He qualified fourth, but he was -0.890s behind Vettel. If Vettel had done what Bourdai...

Nothing annoys me more (in an F1 context) than people trying to devalue Vettel's Monza win. It's absurdly disingenuous.
And I'm one of Vettel's harshest critics.

Well, he's only 5ft2 tall and weighs around 50kg. He's immediately got a weight/ballast advantage over his peers. That immediately gives him 0.2 seconds? And he's obviously no slouch either. These young drivers are bred for racing by their families and sponsors. Small things like this are worth rem...

Re: Hamilton's Sportsmanship (split from Bahrain 2021 Race Thread)
Verstappen’s sportsmanship is what needs to be discussed. He let Hamilton through between turns 10 and 11 because he said it would be “unfair” to let him through later in the lap and then DRS pass him down the main straight. That is Hakkinen level sportsmanship. Guys like Alonso or Hamilton, althou...

That's irrelevant - Exideron's post that you quoted clearly states it is a Q3 comparison. Then I just took it for granted that the method used in selecting laps was the same as mine. Feel a bit guilty for bringing this up now... Hamilton doesn't deserve to be damned in 2021 for something he did in 2009 and almost certainly wouldn't do again. I only brought it up to correct the notion that going off regularly at turn 4 is the least sporting thing Hamilton has done in his career. ...

Seems obvious to me...when you are not completely happy with the Race car you push it beyond it's and your limits, thus mistakes are made. A good performance given he's with a new team and been away for two years. Able to fight for minor points in what was probably the 8th quickest car on the day. I don't think he'll be too fussed about the performance of the Alpine this year. He is all about 2022.
