Re: Newey Leaving Red Bull
Another thought... Will Newey be allowed to walk into another team or will he have a contract he has to wait out?

Newey Leaving Red Bull
I thought this deserved it's own thread.
https://www.skysports.com/f1/news/12433 ... wo-decades
It appears Newey is going.
Will he pop up at Ferrari, Aston Martin, somewhere else or will he retire?

Re: New points system
I have to disagree. In the current system, the second placed driver can actually stay pretty close to the leader by scoring a bunch of second places and the leader DNFing once in a while. 10 x 2nd = 180 and 7 x 1st = 175. Before 10 x 2nd = 60 and 7 x 1st = 63. For the fastest driver/car, a DNF is m...

This is massive if true. If this happens, I can see Verstappen leave Red Bull too. 1783494391702683656 How about Verstappen following Newey to Ferrari with Leclerc suddenly being free on the market alongside Sainz? Verstappen and Hamilton of all people as teammates in Ferrari. Wow. No, that isn't g...

Re: 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Race Thread
I respect your right to the opinion, but I honestly find it pretty bizarre. Even in the most extreme cases, there are going to be parts of a track where a driver isn't allowed to drive (pit lane, access roads, etc). Many tracks have alternate layouts, and obviously those will also not be allowed. A...

The WDC under the previous 9-6-4-2-1 system and taking out the sprint and fastest laps looks like this. 1. Verstappen 36 2. Perez 24 3. Sainz 23 4. Leclerc 19 5. Norris 13 6. Piastri 6 7. Russell 4 8. Alonso 3 9. Stroll 1 In the current system Norris has more than half the points of Verstappen (55 ...

Re: New points system
The results you require of him are impossible for him to achieve as in race wins, it's just hypothetical fantasy, in today's system it's possible for Verstappen to win 18 races but Perez be champion with just 3 wins such is the devaluation of race win points. Well Norris won't be champion. It's tru...

Re: Official Valtteri Bottas Thread
Bottas seems in good form at the moment. I expect his future career depends on what Sainz does more than anything else.
If he leaves Audi will he have an opportunity at Haas or Williams? He would be an upgrade on Magnussen or Sargeant.

Re: New points system
That's not how it works, you look to give Norris race wins for which he is not capable of, clearly today he can keep much closer to Verstappen without the need to win races. This depends how you define closeness. Norris is much closer to Verstappen in terms of % of points scored. He is only a littl...

Well, I never liked 10-6-4-3-2-1, but rather the one preceding it with 9 points on offer for a win. Yes, less drivers would have scored points, I am not contesting that. Re: New points system
Yes, there will be less points to go around to lower teams and I can see that not everyone wants to (or rather looking the various posts to no one else seems to want). As for the total points finishers I noticed you took an exceptional year to make your point. 1980 21 1981 21 1982 26 1983 20 1984 2...

Re: New points system
You mean because of reliability? Still you would have to be top 5 or top 6 to score points every year before 2003. How else would merely finishing get you points? This is something that doesn't happen anymore but used to. I think the points system has had to expand to continue to do the same job as...

Re: New points system
The reason I dislike the current system is the same reason I dislike the MotoGP system, just giving out points for basically finishing the race. I don’t think it should work that way, you should get points because you’re one of the best. Perhaps a little bit similar to the Champions League in the P...

Re: New points system
Well, I am happy to consider the count back, which is what Mikeg I think suggested or certainly something along those lines. Yes, it is tough that teams like Williams and so forth are unlikely to score points, but let's be clear there, these teams really are only making up the numbers anyway. Harsh...

Driving is one part of greatness but a very important part. I don’t see anything Lewis does better than Max at actually driving the car. I don’t think he’s as quick, or as relentless, or as consistent. Sprint qualy china, the moment rain fell down, Max fell to 4th. He is not the 2nd coming of jesus...

Re: New points system
Fairly straightforward. The remaining teams get an equal share of whatever is left after the teams with WCC points are paid out. See most post above, I class these teams as the "also rans". Bar a lucky race once in a while, most teams will not be awarded WCC points. And that is totally fine with me...

1782864722536112232 This is actually old news he said it at least 2 weeks ago. Ignoring the fact that Max doesn't need a rear gunner, I just can't understand why Sainz would go to Audi. Re: New points system
F1 are discussing changing the points system for next season. The Race understands that the top 12 finishers would receive points. The top seven would receive them as they do now (25-18-15-12-10-8-6) and then eight downwards would receive 5-4-3-2-1. Here's what writers at The Race think: https://ww...

Sainz would be incredibly stupid to take the Audi drive over an absolute certain WDC shot in a Red Bull in 2025. If Audi don't get Sainz they'll likely pair 38 year old Hulkenberg with 36 year old Bottas. It's not like the Audi opportunity isn't going to come back around. Whilst I agree with the fi...

TBF I made this thread last July and people were saying I should have included Sainz then. I also have not seen anyone make the argument that Hamilton does not now belong in this pool of drivers. Just that perhaps he is slipped a little bit lower in it since last summer.

Rumour has it that an offer to Sainz has already been made by Red Bull but the money side of it is a bit miserly and Sainz wants more. If Sainz turns down Red Bull because of money then we can't be to sad if he ends up with a midfield future at Audi, at least he will have plenty of money. We can be...

The hardest question to figure out right now is who the second best driver on the grid is. There really is no clear answer. I think it's probably Norris. Or Verstappen. ;) As of now I think Verstappen is clearly out front. Maybe, maybe not. A super dominant RB-team and a midfield teammate make that...
