Re: Williams Vs Benetton 1994 (split from Hamilton/Verstappen thread)

In Brazil Senna couldn't live with Schumacher and I guess in part that's why he spun, trying so hard at his home race, I would say it was Senna's incredible qualifying ability that got him 3 poles in an inferior car. As to Schumacher's teammates well did they have the same car as Schumacher, Jos th...

Re: 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread

Can we safely assume the newly built track will have a slippery tarmac or with less grip (similar to Turkey last year)? Gasly thinks this but I’ve read the opposite suggested. Apparently they’ve water blasted it which they did before Turkey this year and that was very high grip when it was dry. It'...

A sad day for F1 and most likely the end of the privateers. It was so tragic what happened to him in 1986 and he was extremely strong to go on from that. I answered the question, but can't stop being puzzled by the thread. Senna was DSQ'd in 1989 for skipping the chicane. It would be interesting to see the reaction if Hamilton or Verstappen received a DSQ for similar reasons in Abu Dhabi. Maybe the OP should've included the scenario from 2016 as well where Hamilton backed up Rosberg, making him prone to overtakes from cars trailing behind. This all begs the question how can we tell what an intentional crash is? Can the FIA really ban someone for something there is any doubt over. I agree with the penalty you suggest. They should have used that at Jerez '97. However, I don't believe that FIA would hand out such a penalty to one of its star drivers. Zero chance. Well first he needs to be leading the title chase, this late in the season that's looking unlikely. If he wins in SA and finds himself leading AD it would be better for him (strictly from a winning the title point of view) to crash into Verstappen than let him pass. If he lets him pass then he lose...

Re: An intentional crash to win the title

Out of those 3 options it needs to be a DSQ AND something that leads into the next season. In order to be a deterrent the punishment needs to leave them worse off than if they did nothing. A points deduction doesn't really do that.

So much is in the interpretation here though. Alfa are the best example. Compared to Giovanazzi, is Raikkonen a) a poor qualifier or b) a better starter? Same for Gasly/Tsunoda. I guess that what is therefore needed is for Hamilton to be 1 point ahead going into Abu Dhabi.
