Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)

Nice to see Brits in a British board trying to justify a British driver to be superior than a German driver....very surprising Well Hamilton does have very impressive accomplishments which are in the same bracket as Schumacher's, so it seems like a reasonable debate to have. LOL...ok...Let's just i...

Re: Which drivers won't we see full-time in F1 again?

Albon is too valuable to the Thai side of Red Bull to be let go. I suspect he'll be back at Torro Rosso in 2022. This I disagree. He wasn't too valuable to let got the first time. He wasn't valuable enough to take back until they absolutely had to. He wasn't too valuable to dump out of F1 this time...

The fact that both Leclerc and Norris seem to have caught it in Dubai, a place that claim to have extremely few cases and almost no restrictions should also quite eye opening for those heading there.

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)

Just of them was his own fault. That cost him the win. Certainly without that he would have be leading the WDC. How, where's the evidence? I've done some maths and think I worked it out. After six rounds (Monaco), if you take the position that Schumacher was in when he retired and give him the win ...

F1 drivers and Covid-19

Perez, Stroll, Hamilton, Norris, Leclerc have all caught Covid-19 over the last 8 months. That's 25% of the grid that started the 2020 season. Does that strike anyone else as well above what we may expect giving the averages of populations that have had it? That would be like 15 million people in Br...

Unreliability in 2012. Had he collected the points in the positions he retired in, he'd have been leading the 2012 WDC by the time they arrived Canada. I know he had unreliability but you still need to run that past me, retiring from a couple of third places doesn't quite do it for me, he was never...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)

My opinion on this is very clear The grid from 2014-2020 was more talented than in Schumacher’s time, but that is completely meaningless because all the best drivers from 2014-2020 were stuck in hugely inferior machinery. Say what you want about Hill, Villeneuve and Hakkinen - they all had a fair s...

It doesn't show that given that 12 WDCs have been won by drivers other than Schumacher and 7 have been won by drivers other than Hamilton in the years they competed. Once again, these statistics really don't mean anything without context. Especially given how you include Schumacher's Mercedes years...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)

Going by the metric of 'who did he have to beat to win his WDCs', I think both of them actually come off looking surprisingly poor -- but Hamilton not really any worse than Schumacher. SCHUMACHER 1994: Hill and a rotating cast of weak teammates 1995: Hill, Herbert Damon Hill is one of the weakest W...

I've stayed out of this for the most part as the arguments are all over the place, but to pokerman's point it seems like some are asking whether driver's from Hamilton's Mercedes era (who had a car capable of competing for the title) are stronger than the best drivers who competed against Schumache...

My view on this hasn't changed from the time it was happening some 20 years ago now which I viewed as the dark ages of F1 because of the dearth in talent. Hamilton has done the majority of his winning in an era that was even weaker than those days. From 2014-2021, there have only been five drivers ...

Re: Who ruined Williams?

I just think that F1 moved away from their goals. They wanted to be successful themselves without having to sell part of the team to do it. Therefore giving some to Newey or BMW wouldn't work for them. It doesn't move them closer to what they want to achieve. It just became impossible to succeed in ...

Re: The Official Sir Lewis Hamilton thread

I think Schumacher would have done clearly better than Hamilton in 2011 and 2013. In 2011 in particular, I think that prime Michael would have challenged for the WDC. The RB7 was no more dominant than the MP4/13, and Vettel similar to Hakkinen. I would question how Schumacher would have being able ...

It's not only that, Senna tried to block Alboreto in 1985 in quali in Monaco, pushed Prost to the pit wall in Portugal in 1988, crashed him out in 1990. Pretty much everything that Schumacher gets vilified for, Senna taught it a decade before him. My best guess is that Senna died in the track and t...

It was mentioned in the film, yes. Rarely do you see a real critical analysis of Senna's unsportmanship and driving misconduct. If anything, it's usually glossed over or hardly mentioned at all. Well, I don't know how Pirelli's new generation of tyres will change competitiveness - let alone if at all. Hardly anyone expected the tyre rule changes for 2005 not to suit Bridgestone.
