Re: New 2017 Alternative Engine Specs unveiled
If you ask me, this is the one and only way to break the stranglehold the manufacturers have over F1 by either forcing them to accept certain rule changes in engine supply (same spec for customers for a lot less money and a specified minimum number of customers for example) or by making them leave.....

How is that different that Mercedes at Monza? well... 1.) the merc-tyres in monza were below the specified minimum pressure 2.) there was a big mess in monza and the merc-tyres were checked quite some time after the blankets were unplugged from the power source, so they were colder than they should...

Re: Jenson Button- 50 grid position penalty for Mexico
I think to make it even more absurd the penalties should be fractional and with some other sort of punitive bit. Such as a 72 3/8 grid penalty and the driver has to wear a helmet with a banana stuck to it. (sarcasm of course LOL) I think you have something there, every place over twenty another ban...

Re: Jenson Button- 50 grid position penalty for Mexico
Shouldn't they just re-word the rules... once it goes over 20 places it becomes "back" and then the next drop is pitlane. It makes a bit of a mockery of the receiving team. There engine is so bad they have a 70 place grid penalty in a field of 22 cars. how many grid-places would it take to start a ...

Seriously, is McLaren Honda THE most penalized team in F1 history? If not, who is? considering f1 history, grid penalties for swapping an engine are quite new... so that isn't quite hard to accomplish... And yet again the regulations look absolutely stupid. it's not even a joke anymore... it's simp...

Just a wild and finny guess (and I'm sure it's not correct) - The F1 drivers brake using their left leg. Most people are used to push the clutch pedal with their left leg and apply more force. Some time ago driving a DSG Audi I tried braking with my left leg. I thought I applied just a little bit o...

quite what Balibari said... you have to keep in mind that they basically stopped development in 2013, so they are a year behind as far as the 2014 spec goes... add to that the time from 2014, so in 2016 they will be 3 years behind... one initial and two worth of data mining and reacting to issues......

The other option is that power from the MGU-H is unrestricted, so is it more efficient to make it do MORE work and feed power produced to the motors? I didn't imagine that mentioning variable cost was so risky. And no, you're wrong, it wouldn't be more costly. For the "old" engine, all the design, tooling a...

Mercedes and Ferrari spent a king's ransom to develop an engine and thereby win races and market their brand. True, but the tooling would not have been, and I doubt half the cast blocks would have been used as actual race or track engines anyway. These engines are not mass produced, so the blocks may not even have been cast. Any programs would have been kept, so what ever parts were in the engine can be ru...

1. The engine manufacturers are only interested in power units that provide a technological "halo" for marketing, even if there's very little to transfer directly to road cars. The days of normally aspirated V8s and V10s is over. Get over it. I will be happy to echo those comments in 2020, when f1 ...
