I don't think his number would have changed, but its been very positive for him to have a unified Mercedes team 100% behind him.

Re: When, and to where, will Ricciardo move? [A: 2019, Renau
But why did Renault offer Dan so much money? Surely they could have got him for less? They said they weren't interested in getting Alonso back until they could give him a decent car - so why are they paying top dollar for a driver now? Senna has a worse retirement rate than Verstappen.... Which by the way was also used against him. ;) But he is still considered a great. Re: DOTW China - Officially Unofficial Driver Of The Weekend
My driver of the weekend is Valterri Bo.. No. I don't know. Lewis got a good pole and managed the Grand Chelam yet my vote goes to Vettel on this occasion. Also, I'd love to know which prankster actually DID vote for Bottas. Bottas ran a very impressive race imo. P6 only 48 seconds off the lead is ...

Re: 2017 Chinese Grand Prix Practice & Qualifying Thread
I mean, Bottas has always been a very strong qualifier, relative to Massa. While last year Vettel got out qualified by Raikkonen... I don't think its unreasonable to assume the cars are similarly paced and Hamilton is the strongest of the pair. Of course being F1, you can never really know anything...

No, YOUR argument only makes sense if it's a given that Bottas and Vettel are of identical speed. If there is "no concrete way to conclude" then in F1 there is never a way to concretely conclude anything when talking about different cars. Please disprove me that the 2013 Mercedes was not as good a ...

Re: 2017 Chinese Grand Prix Practice & Qualifying Thread
Kimi is no benchmark. His fans are talking about him like it is 2005 again but sadly he would even struggle to outqualify Perez. He should/can not be used to assess the Ferrari performance looking at his gap from Vettel. It is a futile exercise really. Surely if Kimi is an average qualifier in the ...

Re: 2017 Chinese Grand Prix Practice & Qualifying Thread
I see little evidence of the Merc being clearly the fastest car. You can't judge laps on 'small errors' as apex speed matters far more and is nearly invisible as spectators. I don't think its unreasonable the order of the drivers in 1 lap performance is Hamilton, Vettel, Bottas, Raikkonen. If you as...

Re: Any Other Disillusioned Vettel Fan?
Vettel has a very narrow driving window and is also very entitled. On his day is he fast as Alonso? Yes, probably. But that day is far rarer. The thing with him is he seems to feel that other drivers aren't allowed to race him. Thats a bad mindset. The Ferrari really isn't such a bad car overall. I ...

Re: Vettel - the return of the crash kid?
Vettel isn't handling the pressure of delivering in the 3rd fastest car all that well. He knowingly left RBR to sign up for this so I don't understand what the problem is for him. This is the same Ferrari as we've seen for the last decade, I'd actually say their technical lineup is weaker than earli...

Re: Ricciardo 2014 vs 2016 season
How was Max faster when he wasn't closing up on Dan in the first stint (and DR did some fastest laps early) - Max put in faster laps when he was on 'newer' tyres - that isn't Max being faster, it's tyre related and DR managing his tyres for a longer stint. Max was faster on 7 lap younger tyres when...

On key tracks, they will challenge for sure. But Merc still have a PU advantage, that isn't going away and I'm not convinced Red Bull have a better chassis or aero this year either. It works better on specific tracks but its still quite draggy overall.

All Rosberg did was not chocolate fudge cake the start up and cruise at the front. I fail to see how that is a 10/10 drive just because his car is that much faster.

I was always surprised how people swept 2014 under the rug when Seb got a weak team mate in Kimi to beat.
I wonder if now the Ferrari honeymoon is over people are getting a more rounded view of his abilities.

It really depends on how luck plays out, non finishes will have a large effect. I see it going Ricciardo, Verstappen, Vettel, Raikkonen. Seems unlikely to me. Red Bull were held back by the engines, but Renault seems to be fast progressing.
Vettel isn't the best driver, nor is he with the best team. I don't see why that would result in a title.

I'm assuming this was done on purpose. Letting Verstappen win on his debut. This would catch more eyeballs than Ricciardo winning, which is why they screwed his race with a 3 stop call. A very interesting test is about to come for this theory. Renault has brought forward its engine upgrade from Canada to Monaco but will only give one engine each to both its works team and Red Bull. Meaning the teams will need to decide which driver runs it. http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/renaul...

Ricciardo imo. He out qualified his team mate, got a great start and controlled the race until Red Bull put him on the complete wrong strategy.
That was his win to take. The fact the strategy was wrong doesn't take anything away from how he executed the weekend.

My first thought is Red Bull aren't known for their favouritism. Webber was continually beaten because he just wasn't good enough, not because of anything Red Bull did. I don't really see much of a future at Red Bull for Kvyat, with Verstappen almost certainly being promoted and him alienating the team in such a way.
