I haven't read the entire thread so sorry if it's come up already, but I have a question regarding engine updates and tokens. Are the teams free to build as many engines they wish with all kinds of different specs and modifications, and they use tokens only if they end up taking one of such engines...

Even last year they were allowed to swap back and forth between power unit components, although they had been introducing new parts for reliability reasons... Performance gains in terms of lap times are hard to quantify. Peak BHP alone isn't a deciding performance factor, drive-ability also matters alot more.
