Re: Predictions after testing and before the first race

Laz_T800, yep! I hope so. I just want to see Alonso in a car that can at least do something.

I'm a big fan of his, and I know he very much splits opinion, but there is no doubt that he is a very talented driver and would make the races more exciting if he was in the mix.

Re: 2018 Winter Testing Thread

It is depressing for Alonso and Vandoorne, and a real shame.

As you say, they might sort it out, but either way they're massively on the back foot, and as usual Merc are leading the way. There's nothing really to suggest at this stage that anything will be different from last year.

Re: Renault already considering strategic 2018 grid penaltie

But if customers teams are anyways going to pay for 10engines instead of 6 then how is the rule good for them ? R&D required for manufacture to make these engine last 7races and get more out of the engine. I am not sure is cost saving either :? It certainly is not a cost savings. But manufacturers ...

If you're a lower team running in 14th/15th, it may be deemed of no benefit to keep going so as to save the engine. I'd hate to see this, but I guess it depends on how Merc, Renault, Ferrari & Honda have built their engine with respect to reliability. If you look at https://www.thisisf1.com/2017/07/...

Re: Renault already considering strategic 2018 grid penaltie

To play Devil's advocate; maybe this rule can be seen as a sort of way to spice things up. You'll have top drivers and cars starting from the back once or twice each this year. Or, you'll have top Red Bull, McLaren (and possibly even Ferrari) drivers starting from the back once or twice this year (...

Re: Renault already considering strategic 2018 grid penaltie

I vaguely remember reading last season (early on, when it was obvious that the 2017 Renault engine was not up to scratch), that they would not be releasing any major modifications to their engine until the following season. This gave me hope that they would learn the lessons from 2017, and introduce...

It's an interesting situation with Lewis and Nico. From reading these forums it appears that Lewis has a lot of fans and a lot of people who hate him. Very few are on the fence. The result of it is you have threads like these where Lewis fans come up against Lewis haters who masquerade as Nico fans...

Re: Hopefully what we all want

I don't think there should be any doubt that Rosberg is in his position because of the luck Hamilton has had this season. But should he win the WDC, that wouldn't mean he doesn't deserve it. Picking up the pieces is part of racing. Saying he wouldn't deserve it is like saying Ricciardo hasn't deser...

If Lewis gets another DNF, or if he outdrives Nico for the last 3 races but still misses out on the WDC, then I can't help but think that most won't feel Nico deserves it, myself included.

It's just a shame that the season has been decided completely so far by reliability.

I'll admit I'm a Hamilton fan, but what I'd really like to see is a good, fair and reliability issue free end of the season, except of course for a nice little DNF for Rosberg at the next race to bring the gap down to 1 point with 2 races to go :D No but seriously, I think what F1 could do with righ...

Can someone enlighten me here. Why would Renault not use all their tokens this year? I know the token system is being abolished next year, but surely it would have been wise to maximize the amount of engine development (and subsequent testing) allowed for a year, setting themselves up for next year?...

Eh, even the good drivers have awful days out in the wet sometimes... if you dont have the confidence its a downward spiral from there, the slower you are the colder the tyres get, making you slower still and so on. I'll admit up front that I'm not a fan of Rosberg, but I thought that his wet weather driving was awful today.
