I heard something about Total supplying fluids to all Renault-powered cars, while Shell supplies Ferrari-powered cars and Mobil1 supplies Mercedes-powered cars. I don't think it's a true sponsor thing. Maybe I'm wrong though.

What about turbo cars from the mid-80's? Those had +1,500bhp in qualifying trim and were on wide slicks. But I guess the massive turbo lag they had would mess up the results though... :/

I'm guessing the faster they go, the more downforce they get. But then the more downforce they get, the more drag they get, reducing their speed. I'm guessing they found a perfect balance between speed, downforce and drag. Very impressive.
