Re: BBC : F1 Greatest Drivers (Top 20)

I'll wait to see the whole list but Piquet belongs in the Top 10, in my opinion...Hard to argue with 3 WDC in the era when he raced against Prost, Senna, Mansell Rindt was brilliantly fast and utterly fearless and finally had a car to match his talents in 1969 and 1970...alas, it was the fragile Lot...

Re: Who is/was the best British World Drivers Champion?

Gothnak....I would not entirely agree with the statement that the driver is only as good as his car...That might hold some bearing over a limited amount of time (see S Vettel, in my opinion)....It's what they accomplish in a car that's not a top flight vehicle....That's the telling stat, I would thi...

Re: New Member introduction thread

Chefgordiemac.....I have followed F1 for 50 years. I saw my first GP at Watkins Glen in 1966 (Jim Clark won going away). Favorites? Fangio, Clark, Stewart, Rindt, Keke Rosberg, Gilles Villeneuve, Prost, Senna, Alonso....

Re: Who is/was the best British World Drivers Champion?

nike2die4...without a doubt you are correct and the Men were Men comment is assuredly not to the detriment of the current drivers, as it is still a brave soul who would commit himself to that endeavor.... but the facts are simply this....an F1 driver in the 50's, 60's and early 70's had a 1 in 3 cha...

Re: Who is/was the best British World Drivers Champion?

chinki and seanie.....Sorry, Lewis Hamilton even being in the same conversation as Jim Clark at this point simply demonstrates a lack of knowledge of the sport and it's history. He is talented and a gifted racer but not much of a driver (there's a big difference). And a spoiled brat to boot. ....and...

Re: Who is/was the best British World Drivers Champion?

And one additional Clark statistic.... He lost the 1962 and 1964 WDC in the final races while leading both times and pretty much in sight of the flag....so for two engine/transmission failures in the final race of those 2 years, you're looking at a 4 time WDC..in 4 sucessive years And who knows what...

Re: Who is/was the best British World Drivers Champion?

It is, in my opinion, Jim Clark...and really not even close (and as good as Jackie Stewart was, that says a lot) I've followed F1 for over 50 years and have seen the greats and the not so greats Jim Clark is one of the 2 or 3 greatest drivers of all time (add in Fangio and Senna in my book) Not just...
