Re: Mercedes vs Red Bull - 2021

I have it on very good authority that RBR have already lodged their complaint with the FAI about the forthcoming race at Spa. Allegedly, all the Mercedes engined teams have been doing extensive prep work in the simulator. The plan is for Stroll to t-bone Russel, who will spin and take Ricciardo out,...

Re: Forum verdict on the Hamilton/Verstappen collision

Coulthard said Hamilton, Brundle said Verstappen, Lando tried so, so very hard not to say either of them. I guess that's because he's not sure if the next time the phone rings it will be MB or RBR. So that's one vote in each category. Horner threw a hissy fit, Wolfe said neither of them were going t...

Re: Is Vettel at Aston Martin starting to look like Mansell at Mclaren in 95?

Wasn't '95 the year when Mansell was brought back to help a failing McClaren but the car was too small for him to fit in? Even after a few raaces off and some redesign it was still uncomfortable and he had a horrid time. As far as we know, Vettel fits in the car okay, didn't take time off to win the...

Re: 2019 Canadian Grand Prix Race Thread

Spa 2008. It's taken a long time for Hamilton to get back the win that the stewards stole for Ferrari. I've not seen any cockpit footage or telemetry yet, but unless Vettel kept his foot in and/or steered right it's a very unfair penalty, even if it's the rules. How this compares with Vestappen in M...

LeClerc was faster in practice and qualy, duplicating the young Vettel style at Red Bull - quick, precise and clinical in the fastest car when there was no-one chasing him and no-one to pass. Very impressive. Then at the start of the race Vettel put the move on him to go P1 and I thought, " okay, no...

I'm definitely no Vettel fan and this one was maybe 50/50 but all four drivers from Merc and Ferrari have had to excercise unecssary caution with Verstappen this season and last where they could expect better but still competitive driving from the more mature members of the grid. Something tells me ...

Glorified go-cart jockeys. The best drivers are undoubtedly in rallying. The car control is incredible, the road surface is constantly varying and unpredictable, plus they don't get to hone it to perfection from lap to lap. If they push a bit too hard it's not a trip to the run-off and come back on ...

Like many of Brawn's ideas, it's excellent and would cut down the cost of all the photography and subtle espionage at every GP and test. Of course, it would have to be limited to non strip down stuff, so no peering inside engines, but they could insist on the removal of covers and so on. I doubt tha...

Option 1 - return to an open breather system like on my dad's Anglia 105E and belch grey fumes all over the place, on to the track and around the bodywork of the car. There's no point in an engine manufacturer being in the sport unless they can have their name on the bodywork and get some lower grade publicity as the cameras switch to the mid-field and back marker battles now and again. There's only two circumstances in which this would work: Firstly, if they can...

Just in the process of reading Brawn and Parr's book about F1 and strategy. A very good read, that I'd recommend, by the way. This sounds odd, but I think subconsciously Lewis lacks self-confidence - which is why he's always trying to justify why he lost. We need to stick with the corporate pandering to oligarhs and blokes with tea towels on their heads. Everyone knows it's the most improtant thing on a driver's mind. The ultimate limit is set by maximum fuel flow and the amount of juice they can haul around with them. Having all that spare equipment removes any concern about reliability though and it means that in the latter stages of the rsason there's no need to worry about nursing a power unit.
