Re: 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
Perez has been awful in qualifying this year. That's 9 times he's not made it through to Q3 in what has almost always been the fastest car. Compare that to Bottas who always made it out of Q2 for 5 whole years when he was at Mercedes. And it could easily be said that ferrari were nearly matched to ...

Re: Question for mods. Las Vegas GP cancelled due to industrial action???
Something else I read about this race today is that it’s possibly going to be the coldest f1 race ever. With the long straights as well tyre temps going to be very difficult. It's going to have to go some to beat Montréal 1978. It was 5°C and there was apparently some snow falling towards the end. ...

Re: Driver(s) of the day - 2023 Japanese Grand Prix
It's a tricky one because current regs seem to have turned Suzuka into a major car circuit. Down the field team mates ran with similar pace and strategy seemed to play more of a part in their finishing order than anything else.

Re: 2023 Japanese Grand Prix Race Thread
Is there anything stopping a team from pitting, serving the penalty, and then retiring the car straight afterwards?
I wonder if Red Bull just overlooked this and that was why they had to send him out again.

Re: 2023 Japanese Grand Prix Race Thread
Ferrari arguably the biggest loser here. Literally every other car finished 2 by 2 in team order where both finished. Only Sainz was out of position behind Hamilton. they probably thought he would have gotten lewis with the tyre advantage I think the left him out too long. Pit him at the same time ...

Re: 2023 Singapore Grand Prix Race Thread
Just finished watching. They never mention that new and old tyres tend to converge somewhat. They just assume the 2 second or so difference will go to the end. Pushing those mediums so hard they were always going to go off towards the end while the hards would have likely plateaued. It was always go...

Re: 2023 Singapore Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
Sounded like Max's engineer being super clever trying to cover for Max stopping at the end of the pit lane. Ask the leading question whether there was a problem, cut off his potentially incriminating answer, then said everything seems okay *now*

Re: 2023 Singapore Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
The problem with stopping at the end of the pit lane is that there's nothing anyone behind can do about it. You could in theory time out everyone behind you. If you want to make a gap you should have to do it on track so other cars can go past.

They really need to change the 5 second penalty so it affects on track position rather than just adding time. Long lap penalties work in MotoGP

A lot of on track action, but I can't help but think Monza is so car dependant that it race becomes something of a 50 lap sorting algorithm.

Harsh as it sounds the only way to really enforce a minimum lap time would be to automatically lose the lap after.

Gasly was excellent. Genuine pace all race. I'm giving it to Lawson too, just for surviving as much as anything. One of the toughest first drives you could imagine.
...And obviously Alonso was just sublime. Every move, every decision, pretty much perfect.
