I think it's sour grapes. Racing involves alot of things not just driving on the edge 100% of the time. Their is skill in preserving the engine, tires, fuel (not as much now but still a small amount) etc. This. You have to adapt and drive them, everyone has the same tyres so there's no point making...

43 years old is too much for anyone to compete properly, including Schumacher. With that age you are nowhere near your best, except for experience of course, but that isnt enough.
