Re: The rules on overtaking and what they mean

The qualification you have added actually proves my point. The car on the inside is preventing the car on the outside turning at the more severe angle, not actually pushing it. if the car on the outside steered at a less severe angle, there would be no pushing, therefore, the driver on the inside i...

Re: The rules on overtaking and what they mean

On an open piece of tarmac it is not possible. But if you are on a track that requires a turn of 180 degrees to stay on the track and someone is on the inside of you turning at only 160 you are going to get pushed of the track. What is not possible on an open piece of tarmac? Because there is nothi...

Re: The rules on overtaking and what they mean

Can you please explain how a car turning right can push a car on its left. No. I'm not going to further engage in utter silliness. This should be evident. I'll take that as you admitting that I am correct, unless of course you can explain why my statement is incorrect. I mean, if what I wrote is so...

Re: The rules on overtaking and what they mean

I think in this thread, we should stay out of specific incidents, such as ham/ros at suzuka, because the understeer/lack of control, or not issue will confuse the issue.

Re: The rules on overtaking and what they mean

The point about the space not occupied by the overtaker (the outside driver as I called him), is invalid in my opinion. Crowding a driver off the track is precisely denying that outside driver the room that he should be allowed to occupy on track , as required by the rules. It is important to remem...

Re: The rules on overtaking and what they mean

Your point B. What I mean by this is that the overtakee is steering right, whereas the overtaker is on his left. How can he be pushing or pressing him, when he is steering in the opposite direction to where the other car is? Oh come on, you can't actually be serious here, right? I mean, the word pl...

From "Did Lewis Force Nico off the Track at Suzuka?" So why don't you explain precisely what does constitute a driver pushing a competitor off the track? Re: Did Lewis Force Nico off the Track at Suzuka?

A_W raises an interesting point, but unfortunately, it is a point only an accident will highlight, without necessarily bringing a solution. And we all saw how spectacularly stupid Mercedes reacted after Francorchamps last year. Let's suppose Rosberg had held his line, as he was perfectly allowed to...

Re: The rules on overtaking and what they mean

It also depends on the definition of “deliberate crowding of a car beyond the edge of the track”. It seems reasonable to me that simply following the racing line round a corner may well result in crowding a car beyond the edge of the track but importantly it is not done deliberately, but as a side-...

Am I missing something that the rest of you can see? Where is the word "and" or "or" in the regulation that's being discussed? It's a list of things that are not permissible. It doesn't say "and". It doesn't say "or". 20.5 Manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers, such as: - deliberate crowding of...

I also strongly dislike this now-widespread practice of holding the racing line in an overtaking situation and pushing the car on the outside off the track by pretending they are not there. If this isn't crowding another car beyond the confines of the track then I'm not sure what is, and my interpr...

Martin Brundle made the claim during the race on Sky that Lewis forced Nico off the road and there have been some debates as to how fair Lewis was racing wheel to wheel with Nico in that opening lap... Whether the move was intentional or not is not in question. Ricciardo made the decision to attempt the pass there as he had done beautifully many times before. However, the lockup was the mistake as no driver would ever want to light up their tires, much less as severely as Ricciardo did there. And...

While the move was intentional, it was a mistake. He overshot the corner. Successful dive bombs require you to basically dive on the inside and literally park the car on the apex so your opponent cannot do the over under. He overshot the apex by a mile, so that was his mistake there. It wasn't poss...

One difference between the 2 instances being discussed that hasn't been brought up yet is the closing angle/speed of the cars. In the HAM ROS incident, Ham was always completely in Rosbergs vision and didn't make any drastic moves. In the ROS RIC incident, ROS comes at quite an angle and distance fr...

In my mind, a driver who chooses to not avoid contact when he could is not one that belongs on a racetrack. Well, but imo Rosberg did try to back out. If he was hell bent on making contact, it could have been a lot worse. He misjudged by inches to clip Hamilton's tyres. The rules are simple - exceeed the margins of the track and get an advantage, you either have to give that advantage back or receive a penalty. It doesn't matter if someone is poised ready to overtake or not. If you gain time you have gained an advantage. Nico did just that, didn't back off to give...

How about a painted narrow route to be taken if you miss the chicane? I could follow a shape similar to the chicane, but narrower, so the car has to go slower. If you go over the white lines while attempting to stay in between them, you get a 5 second penalty. Like this... Any circuit with a chican...
