Re: Leclerc penalised 15 seconds after Japan race

Alonso in Malaysia (2012?) comes to mind.

Didn't pit at the end of the first lap for front wing damage, didn't even make it down the start-finish straight before the wing lodged under the car, ending his race and potentially costing him important WDC points.

Kimi didn't expect that, at least appears that way from the onboard view. Kvyat saw room but pulled out for the move a bit late.

Vettel seems to be on a roll. Didn't look like anything obviously dodgy went on with the pit-stops (I'd love to known if Leclerc was offered first stop, that should settle it), did he put in good out-laps to jump Leclerc? Fresh tyres will do that for you. Fresh tires + clear air. Does look like Lec...

Good strategy call and perfect execution on track. Well deserved win.

As for Red Bull, it says a lot that they're genuinely contending with Merc upfront, even if they didn't win today. Honda have had a huge hand to play. Three way works battle upfront if Ferrari can sort themselves out.

Aero taking away from the racing again. Hamilton probably needs to conserve tires too but presumably had to back off due to brake temps there?

There shouldn't be a podium without a clear winner. Understandable for technical and car infringements caught later in parc ferme, but in-race incidents should be adjudicated before the trophies get handed out.

Dive down the inside, run out of track to turn and crowd the opponent off track. Would've probably been fine if there was no contact, but that bump emphasized the move.

Happens a lot, but shouldn't. If you're making a risky move, it's your job to make it stick cleanly.

Max is understandably upset, but no point stewing over it. Racing can be a cruel sport, pretty sure he'll have plenty of success and a few disappointments along the way.

Driver of the day by a country mile, and his time will come if he gets a consistently competitive car under him.

Traffic cost Max a second or so, then another sec lost in the stop (3 secs stationary), but he's on better tires so I'd still bet on him to push for the win.

What exactly are Red Bull doing different with the tires? Making the supersofts last 35 laps in the first half of the race is ridiculously impressive if it's down to their car and drivers and not unpredictable tires.

Penalty decision aside, it's surprising F1 uses scales that can't handle a 700-odd kilo car driving on & off it without malfunctioning. Such low load tolerance, or just very sensitive mechanisms? It can't be they never accounted for a use case like today's incident.

If Vettel is under investigation for endangering steward/delegate safety in the weighbridge incident, the incident with Sirotkin was surely a worse case of endangering another participant, timed lap or not? Vettels reporting has zero to do with safety. https://twitter.com/LukeSmithF1/status/1061314...
