Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
You need to read some of the books I'm afraid. I've heard a lot of anecdotes as well, but books like the "edge of greatness" give a bit more details. For example, stark contrast to the "I love you guys, we are so blessed" routine, Schumacher would know the people in the factory by first name and ro...

Re: Official Valtteri Bottas Thread
That was some off-weekend for Bottas. I don't expect him to challenge Hamilton every race, but the gulf here was enormous. The Russel incident was unfortunate for both, but what we he doing being passes by a Williams anyway? Yes the chasm in quality and skill between Bottas and Hamilton was simply ...

Re: Driver(s) of the Day - 2021 Emilia Romagna (Imola) Grand Prix
. Due to the recovery, Hamilton. What did Max do that was equivalent ? For the last few years Hamilton has often been denied votes in the "driver of the day" threads because he basically just led from start to finish - but now that Max does that he gets loads of votes. Hilarious. . . Aight man.

I just have Max and Lando. The only two that made sense frankly. Stroll did a solid job, but was penalised for passing outside the track, so I don't think I can give him the nod I've switched my vote from Stroll to Leclerc because I was unaware of the penalty at the time, and Leclerc has said he co...

Re: Driver(s) of the Day - 2021 Emilia Romagna (Imola) Grand Prix
^ Didn't someone earlier liken this to Canada 2011? On that day Vettel did not put a foot wrong until the very final lap. Button, by contrast, had a first half to forget. Yet he is remembered for what was at the time a stand-out win. I guess if they both had mistakes, then it doesn't make such a di...

Re: Driver(s) of the Day - 2021 Emilia Romagna (Imola) Grand Prix
I don't really understand the votes or considerations for Hamilton. Yes he maximised the result and looked good everywhere other than his mistake, but had russell and Bottas not collided, Hamilton likely would have only been able to recover into the tail end of the points. I can accept he was in a ...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
Imagine that he had agreed to play second-fiddle to Alonso that year. Even a repeat of Moss-Fangio would have lead to an epic fallout regardless. Hamilton was too close to Alonso (i.e. winning multiple races on his ability unlike Fisi, Piquet Jr or Massa) for him to be comfortable, even as team lea...

I feel that possibly Schumacher was lucky that he joined when he joined. Back then he could add more value with these things, especially as he had experience working as a mechanic when he was young. Nowadays most things are done with simulation and less on-track testing. So maybe if he joined in 20...

Where would Trulli fit in amongst today's grid? He seems a bit Bottas like with the quick in qualifying but not as strong on a Sunday. This is a valid point I guess, but I was not really trying to oppose this. Just the idea of comparing a half year against a full year as the original post did between 1999 and 2016. MS didn't run for 44% of 1999, you can understand that that was a much smaller pool than a full year. That's with Win...

Verstappen defending, I can't remember many examples if I'm honest I'll be very impressed if Verstappen can drive off into the distance in the wet. I expect Hamilton to be sat on his gearbox for most of the race. If the quali is wet, I expect Hamilton to be ahead and Max not being able to catch up.

What? Michael entered 10 races in 1999. In those 10 races, Irvine out scored him. The missed races are removed. I think you'll find that he wasn't included for Silverstone.
