Re: Evaluating Schumi's legacy

Any link? I think it had to do with changing the braking towards the left pedal, right ? Anyway, it ended with him ramming into hill. No, not really. Braking with his left foot was another thing altogether when other drivers were still doing heel and toe. The article was this: https://www.linkedin....

It's also quite cool to read Toet's article about what was going on with the "driver aids" in 1994. He has some very nice articles, I'd urge you to give them a look. Effectively (to my understanding) they created the driver aid effect, but legally. As other teams too that year.

Sennas dubious moments ? Not sure what that has to do with my post; just my opinion if you are referring to Suzuka 90, it was because of them changing the pole position. He should have had the lead going into the turn, it was a case of deliberate planning by the FIA (Balestre French decent). So, he...

Schumacher is a good driver, but as many people have said, he's never had a WDC as his team mate, and after coming back from retirement, and once paired with Rosberg, he lost. He's also had a few dubious moments like parking his car, ramming into others, and so on. If you ask me, I would rate Senna...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)

Why exclude Silverstone? Schumacher competed and had a mechanical failure. It would be like omitting Malaysia 2016 for Hamitlon. 32-32 was the score between Irvine and Schumacher leaving Silverstone at mid season. Then Irvine 14 vs Michael’s 12 in the final two races. 46-44. That’s the fact. Yes it...

Hamilton didn't miss 7 races in 2016, please stop making a nonsense comparison. It's not nonsensical. In races they both entered, Irvine scored more points despite being utterly outperformed by Schumacher. Johnson talked about context. Then he used a year that was cut in half to make a point. In my opinion, you can find reasons to give Schumacher the nod and such to give Hamilton the nod. It's a close call. Two things, for me, decide it in Hamilton's favour: - he raced stronger teammates, and - Schumacher had more and more severe unfair actions ("lack of sportsmanship"). but I...

So you have an issue with someone getting apparently extra credit (for something he did) and not being blamed for something that he didn't do wrong. I just find this bizarre. I concede when put in those terms it is bizarre. I suppose it's just the fickle nature of timing in this sport. I don't thin...

We can't start having a go at people for things they didn't do! Who is having a go? All I'm saying is that his efforts at Mercedes would have had little impact on his legacy at the time he left in 2012 and he gets extra credit since Mercedes rise in 2014. Having a go is probably not the best way of...

And especially for Mercedes, Schumacher along with Haug were the people who convinced the Merc board to pour more money in the team and bring Toto, which evolved to today's monster team. But that wasn't the point of the post, which was to highlight Schumacher's contribution to Mercedes's success today, that team building trait which Hamilton (or anyone else) doesn't hold a candle to. Yes, that is a myth, really. It started out with some projections than Schumacher with an ideal season could have matched Rosberg (without assuming an ideal season for him as well, of course). Verstappen’s sportsmanship is what needs to be discussed. That is Hakkinen level sportsmanship. Guys like Alonso or Hamilton, althou...

One important factor in Max not being able to repass Hamilton was that he went to the dirty side of the track to let him through, collecting lots of dust and sand on his tyres. I don't think they really recovered from that. How long does it take for the tyres to get back to proper performance level...
