Re: What if it wasn't Honda's fault?
I believe McLaren are a worse team than they were in 2014, where with the best engine on the grid they came 5th. Being with Honda put them 9th, 6th & 9th, but I don't believe that if they stayed with Merc engines they'd have be doing better than the 5th they got in 2014. Putting the third (maybe bac...

Re: McLaren, Honda, 2018
The issue of costs I think is distorted. Yes the hybrid engines are more complicated than standard ICE's. But the real driver of costs is the rules around the number of engines allowed by a driver over the course of a year. Give drivers 2 engines per weekend and costs will go down, not up because th...

Re: McLaren, Honda, 2018
I don't buy the regulations being Honda's problem here at all. The regulations did not limit testing out new ideas, just how many tokens you could spend. Honda used the least amount of tokens of anyone on their engines the past few years. They simply don't know what to do to make a better engine. Th...

Re: Ban the Mercs! - First great race in a long time
It always amazes me how many people are only interested in what's happening at the sharp end of the race. For me this was one of the more boring races of the season with not as much action going on down the field.

I don't quite get this discussion. Either it's too easy to over take on one hand, or it's too difficult on the other. Apparently the only good racing is when two drivers are on the same age and type of tyres and somehow they've ended up the wrong way round on track. Frankly I saw a good race today w...

Re: New Qualifying Format Binned Official
My issue is that by design it reduces the amount of cars on track for most of the sessions. With last year's format anyone taking part in a stage of qualifying can be on track until the end meaning anyone can have their place taken and have to go out again to get it back. With the knockout it means ...

Re: Would F1 2015 be better without Mercedes? must read
The reliability rules were introduced to attract sponsors to F1. No one wants to sponsor a team who is going to blow up and be out of most of the race receiving little coverage and only negative coverage at that. The result is there are less upsets as everyone finishes who doesn't crash and fast car...

Re: F1 Engine Formula Has Clearly Backfired
For me the issue is not the cost it's the lack of development the engine manufacturers are allowed. They can't do it so why would they risk everything on getting it right straight away? Because if it's not perfect from day 1, tough there's nothing you can do. You'll remain uncompetitive forever

Re: Windtunnels banned!
It doesn't matter if they ban wind tunnels. The teams with money will spend it on CFD research and development and will end up with better designs as a result. This isn't making anything cheaper, it's changing what the money gets spent on that's all.

McLaren are used to winning championships. I often hear this, but it's simply not true. It's been 17 year since they won a WCC and 24 years since the one before that. They had a good 8 year run that started 31 years ago, but that's mostly it. You simply can't say that most the people at McLaren are...

I see a very bleak future for McLaren. I've been saying this for 3 years now. They are a miserable organization and are lucky enough to find an engine partner that is just as abysmal. Quoted for truth. Next year there will be 18 year olds who have never seen McLaren win a WCC. McLaren are a dull co...

I don't get all the fuss about Merc dominating. Now that's the $64k question isn't it. If you put a gun to my head I'd say McLaren, but not with any great confidence. I thought there was a rule that customers' engines must be the same as the factory teams? This was brought in to stop customer teams having to run last years engine and therefore having no chance. Has this rule changed with the change of the formula?

I do't understand Alonso's decision here as I can't see McLaren bouncing back next season, even if Honda have a good engine. McLaren can't make a good chassis. Sitting a miserable 5th in the constructors with the strongest engine on the grid in the back of their cars, it's just poor. They have Ferra...

My vote goes for Leob too. I'm impressed he performed well in an F1 test given the massive speed increases. I've just been looking at Massa's results over the past two years and I'm surprised just how often he finishes a race lower down than where he qualified.
