Re: And a night race for Sochi too?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the calculations seem off. You start off with a value of how many kWhr it takes to light the track. This is a measure of Energy. Not a measure of power. So you shouldn't be multiplying this by the length of time it is on for. Upon further research I realialize I am not ...

Re: And a night race for Sochi too?
Nice to see the PF1 forum missing the point as ever. Night race that far east = Primetime viewing in the west = more advertising £££ for F1. It isn't about multi-billion $ F1 trying to save energy, it is completely unrelated to F1 trying to appeal to manufacturers who are trying to sell cars to peo...

Gear ratio's
Am I right in thinking that as well as there now being 8 forward gears on an F1 car, the teams also have to set their gear ratios for the season and can't change them depending on tracks? Are we likely to see wildly divergent choices if this is the case? Possibly one of the lesser teams gearing them...

Yep, the advantage of being the works team means you get first dibs on the engines coming off the production lines, you might get engines ~5bhp stronger than your supplied teams, which is the sum total of FA in reality. I know in MotoGP they tend to be a few races behind in terms of the electronics ...

Re: Jv vs martin brundle. who do you back.
Some people are just blind. Don't forget, Brundle is the one still making £millions out of F1, he's the one who has the most to gain from disagreeing. If you think watching Vettel opening a flap at the back of the car to get past Alonso is better than watching Schumi pass hill in the wet through Eau...

Re: STR ditched Ferrari Power - Why?
They ditched it so that they were on the same power as Red Bull, simple as. Hindsight dictates that perhaps that wasn't the best idea, but that's what hindsight does. Toro Rosso would've been working with Ferrari to give feedback on their engines as well. Which driver has come second to Red Bull's ...

Re: STR ditched Ferrari Power - Why?
I thought STR were stuck using Ferrari power because RBR had signed to use them years ago and wanted to switch to Renault power instead, meaning the only way they could get out of the contract was to shift it to STR? As the teams aren't really given much access to the engine, I'd have thought the mo...

Re: Bahrain Winter Testing 2014
Obviously its still early days, but what will the FIA do if RBR can run ERS for one quali lap to get within 107%, then have to switch it off in the race, making them far, far slower than 107%, which is considered to be 'dangerously' slow?

Re: Will Vettel struggle with new regs?
There have been times in the recent past when regs changes have somewhat shaken up the driver pecking order. You'd also have to say (as controversial as some views on this can get) that RBR had managed to reach a perfect car to suit Vettel and his driving style through those regs. I remember when tr...

With the trying, or less than ideal conditions and teams realistically trying to learn all the intricacies of all the new systems rather than push to find the true all-out pace, it's safe to say no one knows which team, car, or driver has the best chance at anything. Only when Q1 gets underway Down...

Is it worth their while to hacksaw the body work and at least get installation laps etc sorted in Jerez? I guess that whilst data would be rather compromised by the aero effect they may at least be able to get some basic setup work done and understand their engine somewhat better.

Not the first time FIA bans something on safety grounds. Deal with it. this would have been fairly easy to avoid ... just put in a sentence that the crash structure has to decrease the speed of the car in a continous way over its overall length and the deal is done... the way they did it was demand...

Quick nick was overlooked by macca in favour of raikkonen which he bitched about ad nauseum at the time. Kimi was the right choice and has proven his class down the years. Pretty much what Brundle said during qualifying, "Look! Formula 1 drivers, actually DRIVING Formula 1 cars! They're having to modulate the throttle, I hope its like this next year, in the dry!" Are you guys sure engines won't be a key factor from 2014 onwards? I think its going to have a much bigger effect on performance than we've seen in recent years. We saw the incredible BMW engine of the early-mid '00s fail to win a championship and a hideously underpowered Renault engine (although I'...

The FIA are fairy cakes of getting into another Group B rally situation in an era when both Governments and the public wouldn't stand for deaths occurring. It is also nigh on impossible to attract manufacturers to the sport if they are in danger of a PR disaster. Then on top of that you have the way...

I personally don't see where the worry is.
