Re: 2025 Austrian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
The first truly impressive thing Norris has done all season really. Good job. But does he have an upgrade that Piastri does not? His first lap certainly was impressive, as was his 2nd, but we don't really know just how impressive it was given Verstappen and his team mate both got robbed of a 2nd la...

Re: The Official Franco Colapinto Thread
As per the article below, Austria won't be Colapinto's last race & he'll at least be racing again at Silverstone. Supposedly, this all was hogwash (Colapinto has 5 races to prove himself) to justify Doohan getting replaced. It's also mentioned that his performance will be evaluated race by race whi...

Re: 2025 Austrian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
Looking at those (air) temperatures, I'd expect this to favour McLaren. If the Red Bull upgrades work though, it could make for a good scrap. Just a response to Jezza's earlier post: Probably my favourite track on the calendar... During the late 90s / early 00s (when it was badged as the A1 Ring) I ...

Re: F1: The Movie
Just got back from seeing it. Oh it's bad. Obviously the footage of the racing is OK, but we can see that for real every other weekend. The dialogue is cringe inducing and the acting awful. Pitt is so charismatic that is has the unfortunate effect of showing up the rest of the cast. Condon is the e...

Re: Driver(s) of the day - 2025 Canadian Grand Prix
The bottom end of the top 10 (Hulkenberg, Ocon, Sainz) all made good accounts for themselves. I'm tempted to plump for Sainz, as his qualifying position was largely out of his comtrol and he / Williams maximised the race strategy (even if it needed a DNF or two ahead to achieve that final point).

Re: 2025 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
It's a problem that has existed for years, it seems that some Verstappen fans have only just woken up to the problem because it's affected him. Well, it isn't me. I have advocated for a while that consistent stewarding is preferable over good stewarding. Predictability trumps fairness. And it is no...

Re: 2025 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
That's clearly part of a bigger debate though that lead up to Verstappen deliberately hitting Russell, excuses needed to be made to try in some way blame everyone else , Leclerc, Russell, the stewards, his team. I looked to take part in all of that, Leclerc shouldn't be penalised, Russell should ha...

Re: 2025 Monaco Grand Prix Race Thread
Drivers close (and open) gaps under all conditions: green, yellow, VSC and - more obviously! - SC and Red Flag. If there is any apparent dangerous, or perhaps even unsportsmanlike, driving it's generally referred and, if so, the stewards either take action or decide that no action is necessary. What...

Re: 2025 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
That's because my understanding of the rules was that the car in front was allowed to do that so as long as there's room for the other car to move into which Perez apparently had, Sainz was not penalised so why would I even consider that Leclerc should be penalised. I see you are consistent with th...

Re: 2025 Canadian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
I stand corrected. You can polish a turd but no-one will ever be able to make Lance Stroll a good Formula One driver. Good on the whole I agree, but there are a few occasions where he is good and even fewer when he is sometimes great, but is just so rare. Although this season I would say half his r...

It's a shame to lose Imola but, like Portamo and Istanbul, this was reintroduced during 2020 when Covid affected the race calendar, and it was a shame to lose those circuits as well.
I'm not really sold on the Madrid circuit but will reserve judgment until the race has taken place.

Re: 2025 Monaco Grand Prix Race Thread
I think Verstappen was just entertaining the possibility that he might catch Piastri napping into, what is it, Tabac? The green flag (light) was lit on the approach to this and Piastri was, from the exit of Nouvelle chicane, leaving the door open. I suspect that Verstappen was starting to accelerate...

Re: Who is favourite for the championship?
The WDC is going to drive a McLaren. The McLaren is comfortably the best car and may even be considered dominant by season end. As said on another thread, for all Piastri has looked the better McLaren driver, he is still only 10pts clear. I think Norris will improve a bit. For all Norris' not-quite...

Re: 2025 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
There was space on Verstappen's left to move into, if Verstappen had been on the edge of the track then it's a slam dunk penalty for Leclerc. Questions to be asked would be did Leclerc move across too quickly or did Verstappen do enough to avoid contact in a situation where Verstappen was clearly l...

Re: Spain '25 Russel V Verstappen
Red Bull must have known there was a real chance that the FIA would give Max a penalty so they decided to play it safe by asking Max to give up the position. Given the (in)consistency of stewarding I don't think anyone here would say there was a 0% chance of Max getting a penalty if he hadn't. Like...

Re: 2025 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread

I can kind of un...

I've gone with Hulkenberg. Yes, the SC helped him but he put himself in a position to take advantage and did take advantage effectively - a bonus position, thanks to Verstappen's indescretion, was a little cherry on top.

Red Bull just throws away a great initial strategy with another terrible decision/execution, and then Max completely throws it away. While I first thought Russell's penalty was harsh, I hadn't quite realised that he used his move as a tactic to get ahead, and knew he would get a penalty. That if anything makes the penalty fair, and if anything lenient given it had no impact on his position at all. I now think that given Russel i...

Piastri and Leclerc were both unlucky with their respective strategy calls and did well despite those. However, Piastri's turn 1 and Leclerc's defence on Albon blotted their copybook a little. Verstappen and Albon made full use of the VSC and (barring Albon's issue with Leclerc, as mentioned), likel...
