The epic battle for thread supremacy
Which topic will succeed in monopolising the board? There appears to be a titanic power struggle going in between Pirelli-related and Lewis-Hamilton-related topics. As a sub-plot, each of these themes has its own battle for population supremacy between what I would refer to as the rational and the c...

Why is running out of fuel at the end of the race ok?
Because running out of fuel before the end of the race would be a bit of a disaster.

He has never been afraid to speak his mind or express his opinion; he media saw him as quite a whinger as a result. I'll freely admit that I had this opinion also and, observing some of his spills earlier in his career, thought that he couldn't quite handle it at the sharp end. Didn't he show me up ...

ess-aitch-one-tee... that should help! Actually, that's a rather good pint raised. Whilst Lewis was having an 'eventful' 2011 and Jenson having a very good one, it's logical to assume that Martin Whitmarsh would want to eflect any negative comments on Lewis and instead discuss the positives on Jenso...

Re: Why is running out of fuel at the end of the race ok?
That will not change; the ruling states that the car must return to the pits under its own power. As for why the rule is different between the qualifying and race, it's because the qualifying and race scenarios themselves are different. There have been many detailed explanations on this, including f...

Re: Why is running out of fuel at the end of the race ok?
"If they start penalizing teams for not fueling up the car sufficiently then it should not be distinguished between quali and race..." I disagree; I believe there should be that distinction. Qualifying is about one flying lap whereas the race is completed over at least 90 minutes. There are far many...

Re: Why is running out of fuel at the end of the race ok?
It's worth noting that different cars, different engines, different set-ups (I'd suspect even tyre types, presures and the degree of wear) will determine the rate of fuel-burn durnig a race. Add traffic to that (if you're in traffic you may not be going at full pace), weather conditions (wet = reduc...

Re: Jackie Stewart : Pirelli tires are dangerous

Re: Pirelli - double gap between tyre compounds in Spain
Pirelli is attempting to pick a combination that in theory splits the race strategy more-or-less evenly between x stops and x+1 (or x-plus-whatever) stops. How even this is will vary according to the car design, set-up and weather / track conditions but it adds to the excitement to see different str...

The proposed small-capacity turbo engines remind me of the old Renault 5 turbo which constantly had problems with overheating... apart from that it was a real pocket-rocket! At this stage of the season, and with the European leg to come, it really is too soon to say. I'm fully in agreement with one or two posters that state that drivers have always had to manage their race pace one way or another. It's a 90-minute event, not a sprint. Even in the days of the supposed Michael-Schumacher-custom-Bridgestones they did not always drive flat out... that one time in Hu...

He was at one stage... critically, for Kimi, as he came upon Romain in front of him. I presume that they were out of sequence on tyres / stops and, on that basis, am surprised that Romain did not yield at that point.
