Ended up with just a reprimand. Seems like a common sense ruling although the whole situation is a little embarrassing for Williams.

Happy for them but they are not out of the woods yet. I wonder if it makes sense for them to keep the updated 2014 car for the whole season. Or maybe just adapt it to the 2015 Ferrari engine for some 30+ additional bhp but otherwise continue with the current chassis. Here's the rationale: From Autos...

Gutierrez showed some improvement later in the year, but it was too little too late (or maybe not considering his soft landing at Ferrari). The car was pretty bad, but I have no doubt that Hulkenberg or Perez would have finished in the points more than once. I find it fascinating to compare the fort...

Re: Dallara to start with the Haas 2016 project
As has been stated many times Dallara is just building the chassis, Haas is responsible for the design. As Steiner states in a recent article that they are going to be hiring the lead designer soon. Haas F1 has already hired around 50 employees and hopes to announce a lead designer soon. Still, Ste...

Re: Engine changes based on "reliability" and "cost savings"
They can upgrade the specification of a component for reliability reasons, not an individual component. So this basically means that the 2nd-5th examples of a given component can be slightly different from the initial one (and each other), which is normally disallowed due to the engine freeze. So in...

Meh. The ones that are clearly brilliant will make it even without backing. There are exceptions, but Bird is not at the top of the list there (Frijns is).

One thing that completely baffles me: This Autosport article http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/117089/ says: In particular, paragraph 2 of Appendix 4 of the F1 Sporting Regulations relating to engine homologation states: "A manufacturer may homologate no more than one specification of powe...

This makes me a bit sad as it likely rules out a potential IndyCar seat. Yep. Rabat and Kallio were still riding 250cc (previous incarnation of Moto2) when Marquez emerged as a 16 year old. He has since won 125cc, Moto2 and two MotoGP world championships breaking several records in the process. Kallio and Rabat will stay in Moto2 until the end of their careers. Any cham...

Re: Guaranteed F1 seats for the best three GP2 drivers
This is kind of similar to Moto2 - there are a bunch of career Moto2 (and Moto3) drivers who regularly fight for podiums and wins, but everyone knows they are not really on their way to MotoGP. Take this year for example - Rabat and Kallio were the title protagonists, but everyone knows that Vinales...

Re: Budget-Comparison: F1 and WEC
Most of the reasons have been mentioned before (one that really resonates with me is how you'll have the same basic design for 3-4 years - so you don't start from scratch and can likely reuse a large percentage of parts). However I still feel the major difference is that due to the WEC's lower profi...

One thing that I don't fully understand (only tangentially related to the thread, but I didn't want to start a new one - sorry): How on earth is Mobil1 developing the fuels/lubricants for the engine if (as reported) McLaren basically never gets to touch the engine apart from races and testing sessio...

So he beat Hill to the title in 95 quite easily. But i think Hill was better in 1996, and the B196 was a bit further behind the Williams that year too. Could Schumacher have done it? I would say possibly. He certainly would of been closer than he was in the Ferrari. He would of had a harder time th...

Re: Jenson Button Vs Kevin Magnussen Your Pick for 2015?
Really a tough choice right now for McLaren. The optimal would probably be to ask Button to take a pay cut and place Magnussen at Lotus with the money they save, but it's probably too late for that. Things speaking for Magnussen: - He defended himself at least respectably against Button. The points ...

Actually having two equal tusks would be illegal under this year's regulations. As it is now one if them is the 'real' nose that has to be rigid enough to pass the crash test, in a sense this is the structural part. The other tusk is just an aerodynamic element that happens to look similar to the fi...

Hi Jasko - good to see two Aussies in your mix for F1 seats - in Will Power and Ryan Briscoe. Very interesting question. I don't feel there are any drivers currently who are really championship material, but I feel there are definitely some that could be good enough for a 5+ season career on merit. Here's my assessment (disregarding people who had raced in F1 before): - Top tier (currently P...

Re: Is Alonso to blame for Ferrari's poor cars?
I'd say the area where drivers may have had some input in the past is weight distribution - this is an area that affects the car's balance more than what you can achieve by suspension set-up. However this is an area that's now regulated by the rules, so not too much room for the driver's input here....

It's a good sign for Ferrari that it's Marco doing all the talking and Luca is keeping quiet. Previously it looked like Stefano was too timid and it was Luca who was speaking out publicly, which I think had a detrimental effect on the team. With such intra-team dynamics everyone is looking first and...

So should we really believe that the other two manufacturers haven't thought about this? There is a fail-safe mechanism where the regular (hydraulic) brakes are supposed to work regardless of the MGU if there is sufficient pressure on the pedal. So I think either the driver screwed up or Marussia screwed up really bad.

Re: Will Vettel struggle with new regs?
I think we won't see such dominant performances as e.g. Singapore this year, where his traction advantage was just ridiculous.
So while I think that Seb is the real deal, able to get as much out of the car as anyone, it might be that the new regs will affect him disproportionately.

I didn't realize that for each batch of 3 races the winner of each race advances automatically.
