Re: Mercedes vs Ferrari 2017
I just read that Mercedes are 5 kg overweight! They haven't optimized the weight of the car yet apparently. That suggests lots of room for improvement. http://www.foxsports.com/motor/story/f1-2017-australian-gp-preview-mercedes-ferrari-battle-032517 That's interesting. I wonder if it explains the r...

A testing plan that ends with; "Test n+1: Test the front wing with increased angles until it probably fails and breaks off at Vmax so that we can validate our front wing mounting point failure prediction. But there's no point in testing engines to destruction. Stress them, yes, a bit towards the end of the testing program to see what shakes, rattles and rolls, or what components wear faster than designed to. I've never designed a test program for racing cars, but I've designed tests for prototype mi...

Re: Mercedes vs Ferrari 2017
Between winter testing and the first race last year, we saw Mercedes make a larger jump in performance than Ferrari (IIRC). Again, that just holds true for single lap pace. The long run pace between both teams was not far off the real pace difference of the season's start. Yea, I'm not saying you a...

I'll be that guy then... Why is everyone automatically assuming Mercedes will be closer or better than Ferrari? If you look at both the short and the long runs Ferrari is clearly on top at the moment. Ferrari really didn't try to set monster times either. Vettel was lifting and intentionally screwi...

I think we can safely say that no-one has gone flat out yet. Reasons being; 1. All the cars will change between now and Melbourne, 2. Limited number of engines mean they are all turned down and teams don't want to stress and blow them during testing, 3. No-one wants to show their hand. Anecdotally,...

Re: How to watch F1 in the UK, in 2016
I would gladly fork out some cash to watch good F1 coverage, but the sane options are non-existing. The only way would be to pay for a satellite dish and receiver box thing and subscribe to the full monty sky package. Just to watch F1 every other weekend... You could always try a bar with Sky Sports? If it doesn't clash with football then most will be happy to turn it on for you. There's a sports bar near me that always has it on one of its screens if there's a match that it clashes with. Good for European and North/South American races, just not so m...

Re: How to watch F1 in the UK, in 2016
It's true, there are a lot of illegal ways to watch F1 during and after the event, but I'd rather not. There is a genuine cost to stage and broadcast f1 and I respect that. I don't necessarily agree with the rampant profiteering of certain individuals, or distributors 'bundling' disparate sports tog...

How to watch F1 in the UK, in 2016
Hey all I'm returning to the UK this month after many years abroad, and I'm looking for the best way to watch F1 next season. Legally of course. Depending on where I've been in the world, I've seen both BBC and Sky coverage, both are excellent but my preference would be Sky (but I don't even know if...

This is Fernando's 'master plan' playing out... 1. Lewis, Fernando and Mark (Webber) have been buddying up and discrediting Seb for years. 2. Lewis knew about Fernando leaving Ferrari. 3. Fernando promises to bring trophies to Woking. 4. Lewis said he would drive his Mercedes 'like he stole it' (but...

Re: Alonso left without a drive?
We all know Alonso is a highly regarded driver, quite possibly the best on the grid. With his recent comments about being fortunate enough to decide his own future you would imagine virtually any team would make way for the 2 time champ. So with nearly all the seats filled on the grid you have to s...

I don't see McLaren signing FA for a one year deal knowing he is looking to go to Merc. So will they make him sign a 2 or 3 year deal? Looking at the WCC, the team with fastest car (Mercedes) don't want him, the team with the second fastest car (RBR) don't want him, he won't be driving for the team with the third fastest car (Williams/Merc), he's leaving the team with the fourth fastest car (the beard gives him away) , so he's har...

If it's an obvious plan from Alonso's point of view, then; 1. Get out of Ferrari because Ferrari isn't going to win anything in the next few years 2. Sign a 1 year deal with McLaren/Honda with an option to stay on if it proves to be a winning package 3. Negotiate a get-out clause from McLaren/Honda ...

Alonso - 2007 Blackmail. That was probably one of the worst things on the "human level" to come out of all that. I've never supported Alonso, originally because he won the WDC almost by default in 2005 (although hindsight has shown him to be the more talented driver and full deserving) with Kimi br...

Utter respect for Nico on Sunday.
The only thing he didn't think of was to stay within 1s of Lewis and keep his tires fresh until DRS became available 2 laps after the SC came in, but I won't fault him for going for it. Great race, brilliant reaction after getting out the car.
More please!

Here's a thought - Would Ross Brawn have allowed them race? I bet he wouldn't. Merc have a gigantic advantage and could easily take all the action out of it by employing Ferrari/Schumacher tactics. It's a major credit to them that they chose not to. It's a good question, and sad to say probably not...

Bahrain was a phenomenal race, no doubt about that, and just at the right moment to silence the moaning about the new look F1. It just goes to show you can have a dominant team in F1 and still have excitement, as long as that dominant team allow their drivers to race! The battle between LH and NR w...
