Re: 2017 Chinese Grand Prix Race Thread
An automobile may use a longitudinal shaft to deliver power from an engine/transmission to the other end of the vehicle before it goes to the wheels. You're talking about a front engine car. Even then, what would it have to do with Honda - it's AFTER the gearbox, Honda only make the bit BEFOR...

Wrong. The driveshaft broke. That's a Honda issue. Wrong. Honda don't make the driveshaft. Mclaren make part of the power train? Source? You know what a driveshaft is? It connects the gearbox (which McLaren make - most teams make their own gearboxes) to the rear wheel. Honda make the power UNIT. An...

Re: Sauber to use Honda power from April?
On the face of it this seems a strange move at a strange time. It makes a nonsense of Sauber's stated strategy for 2017 - that is of concentrating on designing their chassis around a PU they knew very well - the 2016 Ferrari, it's also odd timing in that the Honda engine is currently a sickly one. O...

Re: F1 2018
The shark fins actually help to prevent spins up to a certain point, by the air pushing on one side to correct yaw, but if the car goes past a big enough angle the shark fin blocks the air flow off to one side of the rear wing, stalling it and taking away rear downforce from that point onwards. I re...

I'm not sure if Hamilton's undercut was a bad idea, just extremely poorly executed. Had Mercedes been able to find a proper gap, Hamilton would have maintained track position. Yeah I think getting stuck behind Max was the problem. But that was a predicament of their own doing, and as we saw from Ve...

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but it's obvious now that they not only timed the pitstop terribly for Ham in terms of traffic, but also at least 5 laps too early. Cock up.

Streaming is fine for pre-recorded content, such as offered by the likes of Netflix and Amazon, but I wouldn't want to be relying on it full time for live sports. Re: McLaren, Honda, 2018
I think it's prudent of the McLaren board to explore contingency plans for the possibility that Honda can't get it right - or even pull the plug from their end. Doesn't mean they are getting ready to sever ties. It could also be a tactic to let Honda know they have to up their game to keep McLaren o...

Re: McLaren, Honda, 2018
If by mid season their woes are not over, it's close to guarantee that McLaren & Honda will split. What's the point of getting big bucks when the engine is so fragile. Because the alternative may mean fighting for financial survival? McLaren has a proud history of being one of THE top teams in F1, ...

It's definitely better than the original one. And it'll be the only pink car on the grid, the more uniquely-coloured cars the better in my book. Glad they've added a little bit of graphics to the fin as well - makes all the difference.

Yes, for three reasons. 1. They have a long term contract, yes I know contracts can be broken but they aren't even approaching halfway through yet. 2. There isn't an alternative. Nobody can just make one of these power units without several years of development and a massive investment. 3. The only ...

Re: McLaren MCL32 Unveiled!
At this moment, all we know is that the engine breaks down a lot. I still hope the engine itself is good. With the new aero formula, hopefully the engine is less important. Looking backwards, most of the changes to the rules delivered results, at least partially, so keeping my hopes up. Also, havin...

from what i've seen all the talk is about reliability with the honda engine. I'd rather they have a good engine and lot's of engine blows, rather than the other way around. Honda can do one better. I'm just clinging to the hope that whatever was wrong with the Honda engine at the first test is restricted to the interim version they were running last week and not the Melbourne spec engine they have in the car now.

Re: McLaren MCL32 Unveiled!
It's obviously going to be a very difficult start to the season. The massive difference between this year and last year, and especially 2015, which might be a better parallel if the problems with the PU are as severe as they seem at the moment, is the removal of the token rules. So they at least hav...

Re: Every Year I Say The Same Thing...
I agree with the OP. The bigger tyres for this year are a step in the right direction but they should have been coupled with a crackdown on front wing complexity, and instead of freeing up the aero rules to allow all sorts of new winglets and bigger bargeboards, they should have allowed more freedom...

I wouldn't read too much into the teething problems at this stage. Looks like T-wings are going to become ubiquitous up and down the grid. They look relatively easy to fit to any car, and anyone who didn't already think of it is sure to to give it a try now. Not sure what I think about them, they ar...

You do wonder the thought processes in these graphics departments at times. They don't normally have room to include the tail on the bull on the engine cover, but with the shark fin, they do. STR have done so, but Red Bull have missed it off. Why would you do that? http://image3.redbull.com/rbx00498...

I think all four engine suppliers will naturally converge as the season progresses. There's obviously a limit that can be extracted from the package, and as Mercedes are in front, they are nearer to that limit than the other manufacturers, so the others have more power and efficiency to gain than Me...
