Remember, it only takes a couple of tenths pel lap to be well down in the race. Not saying it will be the case, but it could. Hence my interest in seeing what happens.
For Marquez, a couple of tenths per lap would normally mean he's just competitive with the guys at the front...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)

I find it hard to believe the man who crushed Barrichello to lose to the man who was beaten by Button over a season. I think Hamilton on 2011 form would certainly have lost to a teammate as strong as Schumacher. But I also think 2011 was very unrepresentative of Hamilton's overall quality, and he c...

Re: Who are the BEST QUALIFIERS on the grid?

Also, didn't Verstappen start to develop a very decisive advantage over Ricciardo through 2017 and 2018? Didn't he start to carve out something like a 0.2 second advantage? If so, that's quite immense against someone of Ricciardo's calibre, who is a very highly regarded qualifier. Not so much 2017....

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)

That's a score of 8-8 and I am very generous in giving Monaco and Hungary to Rosberg. A fairly minor part of the overall analysis, but why did you give Monaco to Rosberg? Because he was ahead before Schumacher’s car failed (this is ignoring Schumacher’s penalty that was unfair in my opinion). Perso...

It's strange how we keep getting told that in his final year he was better than Rosberg. Why is it strange? It's a fairly commonly held opinion, although certainly not universal. There's even some data that suggests it might be true (point projections adjusted for reliability, mostly) although I ha...

Re: Who are the BEST QUALIFIERS on the grid?

However and notwithstanding, if Perez keeps performing like in Bahrain (which I don't believe he will), this will not lead to this conclusion. It was obvious in the race that Perez drove one of the best cars on the grid. The inevitable conclusion is that he messed up qualifying - and that's really ...

The Ducatis have been doing that for years, Quartararo won the opening 2 races last year then not much else after that. They've had more grunt for sure, but not in the way they have this year. I am confused by the almost unanimous conclusion here that Max is the best qualifier on the grid. He has a total of 4 pole positions after 120 entries. He also has ten wins which says to me that that his race day performance is more than twice as good as his qualifying performance. Max did not take...

Indeed if you take Ricciardo's performance against Vettel then he's on Hamilton's level, but against the Hulk and Ocon at Renault then that put's him on Alonso's level. How did he fare against Kvyat? I have never actually done the Ricciardo/Kvyat comparison, so I don't have an answer. I think 2015 ...

Bottas race pace was exactly equal to Hamiltons, funny how so many jumped on Bottas’ back for this race. I feel Lewis has more to come in this car. It usually takes him 3-4 races to warm up. I am skeptical that Tsunoda is better than Schumacher. He is better than Latifi for sure, no doubt. He looked faster in F2 last year despite being a rookie compared to Mick in his second year. Junior careers aren't definitive, but it's very reasonable to think Tsunoda is quicker than Schumacher.

In isolation Hamilton's penalty at Spa 08 makes no sense at all. When looked at alongside other stewarding decisions that year it becomes a little clearer. Hamilton's penalty at Spa 2008 was like Senna's DSQ at Japan 1989 -- stewards making up a penalty to get the result they wanted. That I agree w...
