Re: Eddie Irvine's scathing assesment of Formula One today

I completely disagree with him. You see in many sports over the last 20 odd years when there is a point that it really becomes professional, and I do not mean pain, I mean in attitude. Shuie and Sena were that step above the other drivers at the time, mostly down to being more professional more ruth...

Re: Who will improve the most in 2019: Red Bull or McLaren?

Difficult to put a fair value on improvement when a .5 jump for Mclaren will move them up a considerable step and a .5 gain for RBR will probably make little difference to the finishing position at the end of the year. I expect Mclaren to finish higher up the table than they did this year, but doubt...

The idea seems to have slipped from the original intent of preventing the use of more that the allocated number of units, to punishing those that do use them, and spoiling the race through it. The ideal would dissuade teams from running the engine at a level that would give more performance at the e...

You mention sound. I wish they would stop 'adding sound' as it is so annoying. 'Woof' when a car passes a camera is the worst of all, and speaking of which, the camera work and direction is dire.
Back to the race, I enjoyed it except for channel hunting, which I thought was gone this year.

Re: If you could own one F1 car, which one would it be?

It would depend on what I intended to do with it. I love the scream from the V12 or 16, but there are not many of them about. Where could I replace a Vanwall? It would probably end up as a DFV engine I could race a couple of times a year and not have to loose sleep over keeping it going. Probably an...

They have to design their own chassis and aero. Brakes are bought from a supplier: no F1 team designs their own brakes. As far as input, who really knows. But officially, no RBR intellectual property is shared with Toro Rosso to the best of my knowledge. Haas is a good demonstration of the legal li...

So much we can never know. I think a key point would be how would Mercedes react. Had Mclaren continued as the foref...

Probably depends on why or why not you set that time. If you have the best car, you are probably going to set the best time even when you are just going about your usual business. There is a 'list' of components that can be bought in, one that can come 'off the shelf' and one that has to be made in house. They are under 'listed parts' in the FIA regs, which are here - https://www.fia.com/file/54256/download/18381?token=lMCfyJzf It more or less says you can only get some parts...

All storming in the the first (real) corner with cold brakes.

If I was one of the first two cars I think I would deliberately over cook it and run wide if needed just not to get stuffed in the rear end. Easier to regather than have to pit or retire.

I think that to attract the big names to LeMans seriously they would need to restructure it into a whole season with good media coverage, in the F1 mold. We will disagree there, but thats as it is. Ocon though is bordering on not being a young driver, he is 23 during next season and there are 18 year old's looking for a seat, should he retire out of their way or keep them hanging about 5 years?
