Re: Alonso's Renault R25 2005 V-10 today at Abu Dhabi

It was a good reminder of how things were, cant forget in '05 at Spa sitting in the grandstands on the main straight by the start line and you can feel the ground vibrating under you at the start when they were all revved up it was mental!

Re: Whose 'announcement' race was the most impressive.

Monza 2008. It was impressive...but also a bit weird. Torro Rosso nowhere at races before and after and even Bourdais qualified 4th. Not taking anything away from Vettels drive (or maybe I am, not sure) but who is to say he wasn't driving to that standard all year bit for whatever reason the car ca...

Re: Who will end their career with the most wins?

Schumacher would have won more than 7 titles if all cars were equal so it's kind of irrelevant. Thanks, that's sort of what my point was - if Schumacher doesn't sign with Ferrari, it's not like his replacement wins 7x WDCs. Schumacher would still end up with 5-10 WDCs, whether he had signed in 1996...

Re: Who will end their career with the most wins?

Schumacher would have won more than 7 titles if all cars were equal so it's kind of irrelevant. I wouldn't disagree with but it's just unfortunate that he won nearly all his titles in the best car and very rarely in an inferior car so he won his titles in a manner no different to any other driver w...

Re: Whose 'announcement' race was the most impressive.

1 Vettel the weekend was just sublime and was done on pure pace, mastery of the conditions. 2 Hamilton ignoring the spygate saga looked a good drive considering they had info on the fuel loads of Ferrari and their strategy so could react accordingly. 3 Verstappen took advantage of the luck that came...

Re: 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix Race Thread

You can't define that because Bottas was catching Russell before the race was basically cut short by the Mercedes cock up. Bottas was disastrously poor this weekend that Russell looked like the veteran in the team and Bottas was the replacement driver. I agree Bottas was scrappy, damaged his floor ...

Re: 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix Race Thread

Some of the Bottas slating is going too far. Yes, today looks a bit embarrassing. At worst he's a top 10 F1 driver. We also can't have it both ways. Russell and Can't be brilliant and Bottas be a total scrub. The fact that Bottas is a good F1 driver is what makes Russell's performance so exciting. ...

Re: 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix Race Thread

In the race Bottas made a bad start and was again very scrappy through the first few laps which we can say in part triggered the mayhem behind him and then we had the part of the race were the rhetoric is that Russell drove away comfortably from Bottas, from lap 7, when the race get underway again ...

Re: 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix Race Thread

Russell is a top 10 driver so no that doesn't really fit the 90% analogy. The problem here is Russell beat Bottas the same way Hamilton beats him after just 4 hours in the car, qualify just behind if he doesn't outqualify him and pull away from him in the race. You can't define that because Bottas ...

That's what I found bizarre! Everybody is discussing Russell-this-Russell-that, but the true hero of the race is Perez. Re: How will Russell perform against Bottas?

It wouldn’t completely offset, they would have to pay Bottas his 2021 wages (maybe more for break of contract) and then pay Williams to break George’s contract. Williams demanded $12 million to break Bottas’ contact back in 2017 and Mercedes paid it. I imagine George would be that amount or more. S...

Man Bottas should be given his P45 without delay, Russell got in the car and if it had been in the days where driver numbers didn't change you would have thought it was Hamilton in the car.

A serious embarrassment to all involved.

That's a reflection of Albon doing a poor job, not that Max is driving at some godlike level. I'm willing to give Max the benefit of the doubt that he's extracting most of the potential from the Red Bull. However, given Vettel's very inconsistent post-Red Bull performances it's legitimate to ask if...

I know he was good prior to F1, but so was his race. My point, which I admit I didn't really make very clear, is that I keep reading about him being a Saturday driver. I just don't get that when in F1, we've only seen him is very poor cars. IMO, the 'Mr. Saturday' thing is simply because that's the...
