Alonso actually stated that he made his final decision to leave after the Spa race.
Considering Vettel signed in July! Spa was August if am not mistaken.

Re: Tombazis speaks about Allison,Fry, Alonso and the SF15-T

He threatened to leave and Ferrari called his bluff period. He had no contract in his hand when he made the threat and they got Vettel's signature, and he was caught in no man's land! He still had 2 years left on his Ferrari contract, actually knowing some facts might help? I got no fact wrong in t...

This! It is simple an offer to extend the contract was made, he said he does not agree with the terms, and off Ferrari went to sign Vettel without Alonso knowing! And you still insist he wasn't let go. That was after Alonso actually told Mattiacci he was leaving, but not in writing, did not Alonso ...

Re: Tombazis speaks about Allison,Fry, Alonso and the SF15-T

Tbh a senior management figure coming out and saying he and ten others tried to get Alonso to change his mind and an offer of a contract extension should really be enough to get a clear picture of whether Alonso was forced out or chose to leave. Forced out is perhaps a little strong, but I do think...

Re: Tombazis speaks about Allison,Fry, Alonso and the SF15-T

Still my point stands that the improvement in 2015 season was more due to engine than chassis. That said Tombazis is still one of the best designers, he just wasn't good enough according to new Ferrari management. When was he good enough, all the updates to the car under his watch made them go back...

Re: Tombazis speaks about Allison,Fry, Alonso and the SF15-T

I don't think the chassis improved as much as engine did. Ferrari was still far behind Mercedes for most of season. The problem Ferrari have was not the Chassis per say, much more to do with the tyres, as when they get the tyres in the operating range then they become untouchable. See Malaysia, Hun...

Re: Tombazis speaks about Allison,Fry, Alonso and the SF15-T

My understanding was that there were flaws on the 2015 car and these were addressed as much as possible after Tombazis was sacked, and the car was viewed as a compromise car and not the car that Allison fully wanted, what Allison wanted will be revealed in the 2016 car which will be a 100% Allison ...

Yes. Teams backed Schumacher because he was probably the best driver of his era and was not going to disappoint them. Even though Schumacher screwed it in 1997, it was still worth it. I have no doubt that Schumacher would have won a lot of tittles without clear number 1 status, but Ferrari and Bene...

Re: Best Driver from Each Teams History

I remember about 15 months ago Murray Walker was asked probably the hardest question you could respond to: the best ever Ferrari driver. His answer: Alonso. Speaks volumes, and would make you question how much greater he would be considered had he won a world championship with them. It is a big tos...

Well, the OP doesn't mention that it has to be current drivers. Based on that, my list goes: Qualifying Pace: Ayrton Senna. Because duh. Race Pace: Michael Schumacher. Racecraft: Fernando Alonso. I thought he is the equal of Schumacher in race pace as well. But in racecraft, this guy is an absolute...

Re: Magnussen to Replace Maldonado?

In the record books no one would be bothered about that, Mclaren broke the rules simple that does not add or take away. Re: Magnussen to Replace Maldonado?

Which teams would disagree? Ask Toro Rosso, Vettel's win still remains the high point of their F1 history, since Montoya only Maldonaldo has won for Williams. Every team wants to win, now the argument you put forward can be looked at this way, as a team owner would you have Williams or RBR consider...

Love him or hate him, but one thing for sure Pastor Maldonado has won 1 GP in his F1 career, something that Kevin Magnussen hasn't achieved. He didn't get that win in his rookie year though, so it's a pretty irrelevant comparison against a driver with only a single year in F1. He's got the same num...

It just goes to show how much Schumacher studied the finer, minute details and changed them if necessary. Reading about Spain '94, I'd like to see a chart of his lap times. All of the Vettel votes are a bit of a head-scratcher for me. Why? Because Raikkonen was terrible? Vettel finished right where he should be expected to finish (right behind the mercs). I wouldn't vote him driver of the year for that. He not only dominated the only weekend where Ferrari was the clea...

Why would Ferrari direct their resources to overhauling Mercedes just before the huge aero changes in 2017? Surely, it would be more sensible to funnel more development for the 2017 regulations than for the final year of the current regs. "But what we have seen through the season, and latterly part...
