The other purpose of the safety car (than bunching up the pack) is to guide them through sometimes hazards on the track. No, I wouldn't want to be a marshal or a stranded driver in an incapacitated car without the SC to keep me safe.
Besides, it's a nice Merc ad, isn't it?

Massa probably raced that track growing up and that was the natural line, and he couldn't get out of the habit.

Re: So who will Boullier pick?
Grossjean and Hulk would be a formidable team judging by the last half of this season, however I just hope Lotus sort out their money issues and make sure they have the engineering strength to put their car regularly in the top 5 and even the odd race win again.

Re: Today is a sad day for the history of F1...
There is nothing wrong with a small engines in F1. As long as they are internal combustion and as long as they are powerful enough to push the tires past the limit, and of course that they sound nasty. My biggest problem with next year is initially the low maximum rpm and now after hearing about it,...

When I click a thread, is there no way to change the settings so latest is on top? I tried it in my settings, but it didn't take. Annoying to have to always press 'first unread post'

Re: Looking for your thoughts on Vettel & Webber
My thoughts? Webber - good Vettel - bad (but better) No way would Webber accept a gift win. Glad Vettel didn't even try. Mark has never looked for payback in that sense for Malaysia. What has always been in contention is an actual apology from Vettel to Mark. Vettel apologized to the team and half h...

Re: Alonso v Raikkonen
Still quite surprised that Kimi is to partner Alonso. I thought FA had some input into his team mate, how do you think he will fare against KR? My belief system tells me that Alonso will beat Kimi I think over the season you are correct, however I think Kimi will surprise more often than many people...

Re: Hamilton finishes ahead of Rosberg (2013)
AVG qualifying time difference from Hamilton to Rosberg this season was -0.199s. They almost split the number of times one was ahead of the other at the checker. I'm not sure why there is so much debate over the two of them, as they are essentially on an even level. I would say that Merc perhaps was...

You nailed pretty much everything. Bernie going to jail and the FOM's take of revenue reduced to 20% (rest distributed directly to the teams) would be my only addition.

Re: Bernie names potential F1 successor...?
Of the team principals I would say Christian would be the best choice. He has built teams from the ground, not just been hired by the richest. As for Whitmarsh and Domenicali, I think they have both done a poor job of even running their teams since they took their respective helms, so I don't feel s...

Re: Alonso v Raikkonen
I look forward to the battle next year. I think Kimi and Alonso are pretty close together with regards to speed and talent. The big difference is that if things start to go bad in a race, Kimi just kind of gives up, while Alonso pushes like hell until the end. But if things are going well for Kimi, ...
