Re: 2012 Planet F1 MotoGP Thread
I'm looking forward to this season. Here are the things I'll be looking for. 1. Can Yamaha regain ground on Honda? Honda clearly had the bike to beat last season and it seemed that Pedrosa was really the only person who should have challenged Stoner but he didn't quite seem up to it and an injury to...

The Ford Team must be kicking themselves. All they had to do was finish. Even when Loeb gifts them a chance to get back into the championship, they still drop the ball. Just give him his championship trophy right now and get it over with.

Re: Mercedes to reject new Concorde - out of F1 after 2012?
Part of Merc's problem is that they really liked usng V8s. V8 engines are a major part of their business but turbo charged 6s really are not. You might see some other manufacturers enter into the sport now. Maybe Volkswagen/Porsche or possibly some of the Japanese manufacturers might take an interes...

Re: Adrian Sutil's case is now formally over!
Well, Sutil is a 29 year old driver who really hasn't established himself as anything more than a solid performer. As such, no competitive team will have even a remote interest in bringing him on. Not with all the negative publicity. Competitive teams want either promising young talents or establish...

Re: Is Alonso currently the best driver in F1?
Alonso nearly won 2010 with the 3rd best car on the grid. In fact, the only reason he didn't win was because Ferrari botched pit stop strategy in Abu Dhabi and Fernando ended up behind Petrov. Why not say the worst car on the grid while you're at it? My left brain tells me to usually ignore such cl...

Re: rate each drivers mental toughness
I'm not even a Raikkonen fan but to me, he is clearly the most mentally tough. He doesn't seem too phased by big moments in my opinion. I think it's sort of a by product of his personality. Kimi doesn't seem to concerned with other people or their opinions. I think that helps him in those types of s...

Well I think the current wet weather tires can displace 60 liters per second each. I'm not sure but I think that in the past, the tires were perhaps a bit more efficient.

Most F1 drivers DO NOT have private jets. Maybe 2 or 3 of them do but that's about it. Do you have any idea how much a private jet costs to purchase and maintain?

Re: blame Pirelli tyres for your favourite drivers failings
What annoys me is that some people this forum seem to think that "looking after your tyres" is a new thing. Looking after you tyres was ALWAYS part of formula1. At least for anyone that has been watching for more than 10 years. Its the early/mid/ late 2000's and the Ferarri/MS era that brought in i...

I think Sutil missed his chance. It's one thing to be a Hamilton or an Alonso where you're seen as a future star from day one. To be a guy like Sutil who has to work his way from backmarker to midfield and finally to the front, you just don't have the same margin for error. You can't afford to get ...

It's the Pirelli tyres. Pirreli say the tyres are promoting closer racing but they are actually destroying it. You also have to remember Sebastian Vettel never dominated the supporting classes like say Lewis Hamilton did. A 2nd in Formula 3 was his best result. Skill in lower catagories doesn't necessarily translate to Formula 1. Arguably the current Formula 1 is more about tyre feel and maintenance over ag...

In general I like Stallone but his portrayal of sports in his films always leaves something to be desired. "Driven" was absurd. There was a scene in that movie where the two main characters race Indy Cars through the streets of a major city. It was totally ridiculous. Even "Rocky" is totally unreali...

We can nitpick and suggest that for F1 to take a stand here would be hypocritical because there are social and political problems in most of the countries on the calendar but I think that would be missing the point. One thing that a lot of people seem to be missing is that there is a definite drop-off in the race pace of the MP4-27 in comparison to its qualifying pace. In qualy trim it seems to clearly be the fastest but in the races, the Red Bulls and even the Renault seem to be a match for it. What's more, th...

I think he'd be a fool to leave. Where would he go? He lost a lot of time at the first pitstop after the restart. The rear jack-man couldn't get the jack under the car, then Lewis had to be held in his box until Massa had gone past. He was also 1 or 2 laps too late switching to the slicks at the end - he would have jumped Perez if he had pitted at t...
