Just horrifying, and based on the footage just so freak and brutal. Glad the other driver involved is stable and he will get the support that will probably be needed in the aftermath, my thoughts are with all concerned.

Bit naive of McLaren to enter a discipline they don't know and expect to be at the sharp end, surely?

There will come a point when he will think, 'what more do I have to prove?'

If the Mercedes is not the best car on the grid over the next few years that time will come quicker.

Their usual cage rattling and over-the-top posturing when things are not as they please.

Personally, I wouldn't care of they left. Their politics are a bad distraction from the sport. But, they won't leave so it's a moot point.

What the actual f*&%!? A real shame we will not see him defend his title... but I can also somehow understand why he is doing this. An interesting topic. I have always wondered if it was the difference in the rules which led to him being unable/allowed insufficient time to adapt to F1. F1 had just over a year previously gone from a wide tracked, slick tyred formula to narrow track and grooved tyres. Aerodynamically the cars woul...

Pleasing to see everyone running so well.

Looking down the grid, the Renault does look like it could be the slowest of the lot. A good start for the Manor, they are at the very least closer to the pack and Haas looked very impressive for their first ever run.

It is vital. It lets you see and get a feel for the human being fighting for track position rather then just getting the perception of the vehicle they are piloting. The spectacle lost something when the cockpit sides were (rightly) raised in 1996 and would lose even more with a closed canopy.
