How can you vote leclerc??? He lost positions at the start, took another car out while damaging his own car, and then he couldn't even spoil mercs party with a fastest lap.

All he did was overtake a load of midfield cars with vastly superior straight line speed

Did you vote or did you just decide to comment on who I voted for based on my opinion.

After Sainz & Ricciardo, who else was the stand out driver?

Well I think that Bottas was certainly a lot more impressive than Leclerc.

I picked Sainz and Ricciardo also. Hopefully Leclerc gets a 10 second penalty, allowing the honeybadger to take 6th. I don’t know how he could continue on with a damaged car when Bianchi will affect him more than most if not all of the others. Surely his engineer told him debris was flying off of his car?

I would have picked Norris if I was choosing a third. The others either didn’t stand out, or did things that prevented me from choosing them. I think Norris would be a lot closer to Sainz if he didn’t keep getting hit with bad luck.

Yeah I voted for Sainz, Riccardo and Bottas.

You know bottas, the guy that won the race by a clear margin after overtaking both the Ferraris at the start on then opening a gap of ~10 seconds in the first stint.

I don't know why you have this tone with me when I ask you a simple question as to what made you vote for leclerc, considering he was bad in every way

Maybe you would have voted for bottas if instead of winning the race he crashed into the back of vettel and then brought it home in 6th place

Yeah Leclerc over Bottas is a bad, bad call.

I really don't want to be against Sainz (will still vote for him), but something gives me the feeling McLaren is just such a good car and is well ahead of the rest of the midfield. I feel this is making Sainz look better than he is. I almost get the feeling Verstappen could very often beat other drivers in the Red Bull in that car.

Just think that McLaren is now a lot better than many realise. Plus the fact that Norris is not comparable due to bad luck well over half the time it seems!

Exactly what tone are you alluding to? I too just asked a simple question.

I agree Leclerc had a bad start & yes he should've pitted straight away to get the wing changed.

Based on recent events I see the incident with Verstappen as simply a racing incident, nothing more. That aside, I feel Leclerc drove a fine race.

Bottas too drove well, but he didn't out drive the 2 Ferrari's into turn 1, they botched the start. Once he was in to turn 1, he simply pulled away & , either by design or accident, team strategy seemed to fall his way too.

In the end though, the beauty of these opinion based polls is just that, they're based on opinion.

Not sure it fell his way. If hamilton had beaten Bottas due to a 1 stop, that is the exact opposite for Hamilton. Bottas got a great start and did all he needed to to deserve this win. Don't think he exactly had luck.

He got a better start than them/they botched their starts

Same thing - eiher way you look at it leclerc did a bad job

I'm just wondering if Mercedes had not pitted Hamilton and he had won the race would he have got the DoTD?

On this basis I vote for no one.

Interesting no one has considered Perez. Yes he crashed on the last lap, but the crash does not appear to be his fault, and his result still had him gaining 8 places during the race.. ok not quite as good as Ricciardo who gained 10 places, but still better than Sainz who only gained his two places due to those in front of him crashing and was the cause of the collision he was involved in. A strange one given he seems his gaining points is an error...despite that it was not his fault that he could have lost those points.

Probably yes.

But that's no reason to vote for nobody. It's just a reason not to vote for Bottas.

In a situation were it seems the team may have decided who they wanted to win then I can't vote for Bottas.

I've not voted yet, maybe Sainz deserves my vote but then again I'm totally unaware of the battles behind as I was engrossed with the racing at the front.

Isn't this thread about who was the best driver? What the team do or don't do should have no bearing on that.

He as always made the most of the opportunities & drove well t gain 8 places. He made some great overtakes as well.

Like I said I'm not aware of how the racing went in the midfield apart from Sainz finishing ahead.

OK I'm sure you've opted to not vote for either Mercedes driver whenever Hamilton has won and they haven't given a superior strategy to Bottas.

Good question so I went back to see who I voted for in Sochi last year, I voted for Bottas and Leclerc despite Hamilton wining the race, that was kind of strange because I normally only vote for one driver.

And all the other races Lewis won you've voted for Bottas as well?
Whoever is ahead after the first lap gets the optimum strategy, we've seen this countless times. Yet I don't think you've voted for Bottas even if he could have won with a strategy that got him ahead of Lewis.

Like I said I'm not aware of how the racing went in the midfield apart from Sainz finishing ahead.

OK I'm sure you've opted to not vote for either Mercedes driver whenever Hamilton has won and they haven't given a superior strategy to Bottas.

Yeah, I was wondering the same. Does this work both ways?

Good question so I went back to see who I voted for in Sochi last year, I voted for Bottas and Leclerc despite Hamilton wining the race, that was kind of strange because I normally only vote for one driver.

Nominally I would side with whichever driver I thought had been the quickest, 8/9 times out of 10 that tends to be Hamilton, I believe I've shown that I don't automatically vote for Hamilton if I consider he unfairly won a race which is a more practical example then asking me what would I have done if the tables had been reversed in Japan, that's ifs, buts and maybes.
