Welcome to the 2014 Medals Table! What the championship would look like if Medals were awarded instead of points. At the end of the year, the driver with the most points will be the winner. If two drivers have the same amount of wins (gold), then the most second places (silver) will decide championship position. The same occurs if another tie occurs with third places (bronze). If drivers have the same medals, then highest non-podium position will decide, then second highest, etc. At the end of the season I will award places to those who did not achieve a podium according to highest finish, similar to those that don't score points under the official points system. The way this season is going at the moment. Lewis DNF could get Magnussen 3rd place in the championship without him doing anything again all season.

Hamilton is running away with it.

It's interesting and something I didn't notice until having a look at this but we haven't had the same 3rd place finisher all season.

I think that shows how close the grid is (or was, Red Bull begins to pull away) behind the Mercedes domination. I thought this table would be pretty obvious this year, but for this, and every other table, third could be very interesting.

So for 21 total medals Merc has 12. It sure shows the domination when it's quantified this way.

I don't think there's many stats that doesn't show their dominance.

Number of Canadian Grand Prix wins certainly isn't in their favour. What's interesting is when we take Mercedes out:

Which not only goes to show how well Ricciardo is doing this season, but how close it is really. Also consider Ricciardo's DNF and DSQ would make the actual points even closer. With all the the on track action as well, I think this is actually a great season to be watching, with or without the Mercedes drama at the front.

What's odd is this seasons was both more and less competitive than last.

So five winners to three (more competitive) but only eight podium drivers to 10. Although the season isn't over yet, that's pretty impressive. If I remember where I put the table for 2012 I'll show it, but that season was a bit of an anomaly.

3 drivers with more than 2 wins to the 1 driver last year.

There is a second place missing, but it's not going to make a difference between Ricciardo and Bottas. I think it might be for Bottas but I'm not certain.
