I've seen Solo and thoroughly enjoyed it. For the most part it was quite different to other Star Wars films, mainly because Solo is just a guy with no special skills such as controlling the force. This made it interesting for me as it was a different look at the Star Wars universe and didn't require the normal dark side trying to persuade someone with the force to join them.

There were a nice number of Easter eggs that I spotted and I've now read about more which I'll look out for when I get round to seeing it again.

And, just to keep us Star Wars fans happy, it did end with some stereotypical Star Was action with space ships doing what space ships do best in their galaxy. Plus there's the unexpected twist at the end with a character appearing that I would never have guessed, had I'd been told someone was appearing. No, it wasn't Jar Jar Binks before you all get worried.

Overall, a couple of hours well spent.

Oh nooo, was it a porg???

Thanks Asphalt, I think I may go for it, especially as we get cheap tickets through my office.

I'd like to know the Easter eggs, but I wouldn't like the spoilers, so I think I'll refrain from Googling it for now!

The most exciting Easter egg for me, in a rather sad way I know, was early in the film. This won't be a spoiler so read on. They are whizzing around a place in a kind of whizzy machine, (notice the lack of spoilers here) and you get a few shots that show various enemy spaceships being built. It all looked rather cool imo.

Oh, and no it was not a Porg!

Solo was brilliant IMO, I'll need to watch it again first but my first impressions are that it's the best Star Wars film since the original trilogy.

The cast was brilliant, no weak link, and while I had my doubts when I first heard about his casting I thought Alden nailed it as Han.

Re the unexpected character at the end, not really a spoiler as such but it may make it easy for people to guess so:

I did watch DP2 on Friday.

It was hilarious, I liked it even more than the first one. Proper comedy, full of other movie references and Ryan Reynolds at his best.

I can't recommend it enough if you have watched and liked the first one.

My favourite one liner was when he called Josh Brolin

Den of thieves
- a group of theives get together to pull off a heist on the federal reserve bank but no one can be trusted as the band of misfits are suspicious of each other. It’s a good action movie balls to the wall guns blazing kinda flick. I thought it was very similar to “heat” with the whole cops & robber mind games played out. The ending you don’t see coming.

Death wish
- BRUCE WILLIS revenge at its finest. A regular guy living his life when tragedy strikes, he can’t sit around waiting for the cops to find the bad guys so he starts looking for them and the searching gets good. Some great 1 liners as you would expect from good ol Bruce. If your a fan of search and destroy movies this ones for you.

Avengers: Infinity War.

Did not live up to the massive amounts of hype. Okay film, but if I have 2.5 hours to kill then Avengers Assemble, Guardians of the Galaxy, Civil War or Winter Soldier would easily beat this out. I'd probably rather watch Batman vs Superman than this, but I'm in a minority there.

It was good, and it did a solid job with such a large cast but I thought it also had some issues.

Spoiler warning since this si still a pretty new movie.
Spoiler (click to show)
Good enough movie. I'll be honest, while I enjoy reading a comic book and I've enjoyed the superhero movies in the MCU and outwith it too, I'm really starting to get fatigued on them, especially the MCU given we've have 10 years and 7 movies with RDJr's Iron Man as a major character for instance.

Se7en

Classic movie. Possibly the best work of Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman and the third lead though I can think of at least one other movie each that was brilliant. I'd seen it before but it seems to have only been recently put on UK Netflix so I gave it a watch. Great movie, totally holds up.

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

So I couldn't sleep at all last night. I watched Seven then watched this. Bit of a strange movie. Also, without really knowing them Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce as drag queens and Terrance "General f**king Zod" Stamp as a transgender woman surprised me but I felt all were great in their roles. I found this to be utterly hilarious in a few bits, and a bit weird and off in others. Hugo Weaving looks younger in his Matrix/LotR days than he does in this which is interesting. It's a bit weird. For a 1990s film, society evolving as it has, this was meant as a LGBT friendly type film, but it seems to hate lesbians. The fillipina wife of Bob was also... odd. Mostly very funny.

Edit:
JigSAW

Now, I love the Saw movies. A bit of gore, a huge convoluted plot and a twist so out of left field it's bordering on nonsense is apparently very entertaining to me. I liked this movie too. I don't think it made much sense really and I'm sure I could find the usual plot holes if I wanted to but for the most part, it's good fun and a nice enough way to kill 90 minutes.

Venom

Decided to go watch venom after hearing some mixed reviews I wanted to see it for myself. Since venom is one of my favorite villains in the Spider-Man series I was interested in seeing what the movie had to offer. The trailers didn’t really hint at any other super hero’s in the movie so I didn’t know what to expect. The story follows Eddie Brock a news reporter who becomes venom but how you ask?? Does it follow the original story?? Does it create a different perspective of the legendary tale between Spider-Man and venom??? Well folks the story that is told here is very very different from anything seen before. So if your ok with the story being different then take the plunge and give it a try but if you don’t I recommend you skip this one,

Operation Finale on Netflix. Dramatisation of Mossad extracting Adolf Eichmann from Argentina in 1960.

Pretty good movie overall but it was missing "something". Ben Kingsley performs very well, as does Oscar Isaac. I'd only ever seen Nick Kroll in comedy roles (especially as Rodney Ruxin in "The League") and I thought he did a great job too. Part of the trouble with historically based movies is that you know that the Titanic will sink and that Apollo 13 will get back safely so a lot of the dramatic tension is somewhat dampened. Titanic is at least thousands of people and their fate, this is all about Eichmann and his fate is rather well known. Kingsley has a scene near the end where he really shows how damned good he is as an actor.

Anyway, realised that for someone who is interested in World War 2 and the surrounding years, I don't really have an understanding of the occurrences after the Nuremberg Trials so I'm off to look for a book on that period.

Venon 7/10:
Oddly liked it, story was meh, but had some funny bits. Loved Tom Hardy as Eddie and Venom. They should just do the comedy. Skip the sci-fi story crap

Christopher Robin 10/10:
I love pooh so I'm biased but defo made me laugh and kinda tear up. Nice Disney story and lots of feels in this one. Also good laughter

Avengers infinity war 8/10:
Must see if you've been following the other avengers and mcu movies. Liked how the characters bounced off each other. Yeah had tons of plot holes but I was quite entertained, it was always going to be tough to do.

Ant man and the wasp 7/10:
Not as good or as funny as the first but still worth watching.

Black Panther 9/10:
Nice and fresh for a marvel movie had a lot of deep cultural questions. Super deep for a super hero movie, o e of the best standalone mcu movies.

Star wars last jedi 4/10:
I wouldn't recommend, alot of side quests and wasteful scenes. Some of it was cool I think it's more disappointment and plot holes and changing of direction so much that annoyed me. Ofcoure I'll watch the finale

Ready player one 8/10:
Okay probably isn't that good but the all nostalgic stuff really got to me. Yeah so basically like a reverse matrix where people want to be in the computer... With all their favourite stuff

Crazy rich Asians 9/10:
The comeback for romcoms and an insight into the super rich lifestyle yet the characters were so likable and relatable. Loved the little culture insights too. Good story driven by great characters.

Incredibles 2, 7/10:
Enjoyed this, story was meh but Jack Jack is what this move is all about.

Annihilation 3/10:
Really hated this, felt it was a waste of time, yeah probably had nice scenery but too abstract and up itself it just annoyed me.

Deadpool 2 7/10:
Good movie not as good and shocking as the first. Some of the jokes will probably fall flat in a few months though. Watch it as soon as you can.

Lol thanks Siao7 we are quite lucky this year as we live within 30 mins of 4 different theatres.
One of them is Vue Bedford that has weekday tickets at just £4.99 add in the 2for1 meerkat codes we use, it works out at an average of £2.50 a ticket!

We do buy the overpriced snacks though as clearly they'd go out of business if they relied on ticket sales lol

Yeah, we get 2 for 1 from work, so works out something like £12 for two tickets.

Where on earth do you get a ticket for £4.99???? I'll come and live there!!!

Just seen Bohemian Rhapsody - really, really good film.

It took a bit of artistic license and altered some dates of events, missed some events, ignored others and toned down a lot of the drama (from what I know about Freddy and Queen history). But they told the story so well and the acting and cast was absolutely amazing.

If you're a Queen fan, definitely see it. If you don't know anything about Queen or Freddy Mercury, go see it. If you're not a Queen fan, go see it cause it's just a great story and Freddy's life is an interesting story.

(Oh, and £10.40 for a mid-afternoon ticket at the city centre (and fairly posh/comfy) cinema for me)

I want to check this one. I've heard it was brilliant.

One question; do you know why it is Mr. Robot guy as Freddy Mercury instead of Sacha Baron Cohen? They were tooting SBC all this time, so I was surprised to see the other actor.

All I know is rumour that Sacha had 'creative differences' with Roger Taylor and Brian May and left the project in 2013. It was something about Sacha wanting to portray Freddy in a warts and all manner, but May and Taylor wanted to tell the Queen and Freddy story but still be as respectful to Freddy as they could.

I wouldn't know the details, that's just what I read. And although Sacha would probably be good, the Mr. Robot guy doesn't disappoint! It does look like he's struggling with his false teeth, but when he got the moustache on, I didn't notice it as much.

Yeah want to see the Freddie Mercury movie, heard it was good.

Recently watched First Man, about Neil Armstrong. Excellent movie a bit slow but very emotional. It is a Spielberg movie after all. But I felt it was quite educational and made you feel the horror of space flight. Have an even greater respect for Armstrong, didnt realise what he had gone through in his life. Incredible man.

Watched the Hurricane movie last night. Very educational about these brave men who were not really recognised after the war, but I felt the scenario, music and acting were horrible. A great story, but told in a bad way. Something was lacking. Kudos to Iwan Rheon who spoke Polish throughout the movie!

Ok, watched both "A star is born" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" this weekend. Both of them brilliant movies. Too much music for a weekend, but definitely worth it. I recommend them to anyone. The first one is a bit slow at times, especially in the beginning, but a rather nice story overall. The Queen one apparently had a few facts wrong, but it will not take anything out of the experience. It is amazing to think how many hits these guys had over the years.

As per Madman's recommendation above, First Man should be next in the list!

Watched it yesterday. I kind of liked Tom Hardy (funny experience to see him being "goofy" instead of his normal macho roles) being Brock, albeit not blond. The quick fighting CGI was gruesome, especially when the two symbiotes were fighting... So, so bad.

It was also funny to see him being the "hero", I always regarded venom being one of the main Spidey villains.

Spiderman into the Spider verse:
The best movie I've watched in months, maybe even years. Highly recommended you all watch this. It has an actual story which is so unique, the comedy is well thought out the animation is gorgeous, practically every scene looks like a comic book poster. Didn't think id be interested in yet another spiderman movie let alone a movie about multiverses, but this one is my favourite of them all. Seriously try and go watch it in the theatres if they still show this.

STILL SPOILERS
so I knew about a certain death of someone at the end it was spoiled on Facebook for me by a twit. So I didn't get the emotional hit at all when it finally happened. I was more like "oh there it is!" even though you could see it kinda coming.

I liked fat Thor meeting his mum that one hit close to my heart.

It was entertaining enough the final fight was a bit meh disappointed on the woman line up shot, felt so forced that it defies the point a bit. And captain marvel. Is one of my favourites and she was in the movie for 5 mins....

Anyway it concluded a nice long series and was entertaining and funny

Watched the Tarantino movie, in a summer cinema as well. Quite good, typical Tarantino, nothing more but nothing else than expected. Brad (especially) and Leo were really good.

I also watched the last Spiderman. It was good, ok, but the real kicker was in the after credit scene! Can't wait for the next one, if there's going to be one...

Rambo last blood
If your a Rambo fan you’ll enjoy it if your not then pass this one up. This is a slow paced movie with not enough action to deem it a “must see action movie”. It has the usual Rambo gore and cheesy 1 liners we have come to expect in Rambo movies and that’s about it. The final fight at the end was the best part with all the different fatalities but that’s about it. Great to see Rambo come home though.

Joker
I Didn’t know what to expect going into this one as this would be a new origins story of the joker so I was skeptical. But I must say that it was a refreshing take on the character. As the story follows a man named author fleck who suffers from mental illness which also cause him to laugh uncontrollably at inappropriate situations. He lives a pretty normal life with his mother until bad luck strikes him a few times turning his world upside down. With Gotham city in a hostile toxic state, Arthur’s new view of the world begins to take form and that’s where the joker is born and really shines as the twisted character comes to life. Very good acting by Joaquin Phoenix to portray such a dark role. You really feel as though this could of happened to anyone. Great movie for anyone looking for a drama or a movie with a dark side. Hoping Joaquin Phoenix continues this role.
Spoiler (click to show)
Terminator: dark fate
The original Sara Conner returns to the big screen to continue her story and if you remember terminator 2. Her and John escaped the pursuit of the t1000 and prevented judgement day from becoming a thing. This story picks up where T2 left off and how the story continued for the infamous Sara Conner. The newest terminator villain is the most advanced created in the series creating some amazing scenes. Do expect some of the same old cat and mouse tactics in the movie of old as they fight, run, fight, run over and over. But this movie is a nice touch to bring t1 & t2 full circle and a must see if your a fan of the series.

The story revolves around Egon's daughter and grandchildren being relocated to his old house in the countryside after being evicted. After finding all the old Ghostbusters equipment, strange things begin to happen. That's basically the gist.

I was such a fan of the first two films (I haven't even watched the reboot) that seeing the original rusty Ecto1 powersliding around a field literally gave me goosebumps.

No sign of the original cast yet, but I'm guessing a second trailer will reveal their roles in more detail.

I just hope Jason Reitman does his father's original movies justice!

I recently got an Odeon Limitless card so been hammering the cinema - some movies I wouldn't have entertained though normally must admit!

No spoilers here - just some brief opinions.

Ad Astra
Fell asleep a few times - those Luxe seats are so comfortable - mix this with a tediously dull movie and it's nap time.

Rambo: Last Blood
A bit slow but Rambo fans should enjoy it - I did!

Joker
Really enjoyed this one - edgy at times - Phoenix's performance was outstanding

Doctor Sleep
Read the book a while ago - was looking forward to this one a lot - and I wasn't disappointed at all

Gemini Man
Was okay ...

Terminator: Dark Fate
Back on track for The Terminator - Linda Hamilton was awesome - enjoyed it a lot

Midway
Must say I did enjoy this - as advertised from the trailers so you know what to expect.

Le Mans '66
Thoroughly enjoyed this one - as a follower of motorsport I know it's not 100% accurate - but the cast made this one great entertainment

Knives Out
I wasn't expecting to enjoy this - but I did! I was hooked right from the start! And what a cast.

Also saw The Shining and Die Hard on the big screen in between - was too young to see The Shining when it first came out and missed out on seeing Die Hard on the big screen - both itches have been scratched now.

Nice list Scouseknight, I may check some of these over the Xmas break.

Fun fact; I was watching the awesome Michael Caine in "Harry Brown" the other day and I recognised not one, not two, but THREE Games Of Thrones actors there! If you haven't watched it, I thoroughly recommend it, it paints London a bit bleak, but it is a nice little gem of a movie.

I watched it last weekend - forgot how good it was! (Although I'm not a GoT fan - sorry)
