No I think the manufacturers want to develop their technologies, convergence becomes a natural thing that happens with stable regulations, convergence doesn't necessarily mean the engines are identical.
After years of listening to unhappy posts about engine inequality I guess I wasn't expecting to read a post that kind of welcomes it?
You honestly didn't think people would have a difference of opinion?
Of course but I'm still surprised at the keenness to have such a new engine formula that will probably trigger a hew era of engine domination so soon after the last one, what if Mercedes were to lead the way again, there are people already on suicide watch.

It depends what the benefits were. We had these issues in 2014 anyway without getting the benefits and excitement of manufactuers being able to develop their own tech.

We had those issues in 2014 so why risk having those same issues again?

More manufacturers to the table, Interest in different concepts being used and having application in the real world. The 2014 engine regs were so frustrating because they locked in the advantage Merc had and were so complicated and restricted new manufacturers didn't want to come in and have a go. Basically unless you were Mercedes you may as well not bother.
If teams could do what they like then yes someone may come up with a great idea but at least it could be superseded.
