Decent looking.
Like the colours. Away from black and grey/silver.

Yet again a duplicate forum has been created, half an hour after I created this one, I give up. I'm done with the ignorant people on this site.

Don't worry, I'll delete the thread. My thread was open to post the pics. You can post the pics here. I'll not create any more threads as well to wipe off my ignorance. BTW, can You prove I was being ignorant? Do You know the process I go through before creating a thread? I'm in the thread, keeping everything ready & wait for the official unveiling. Till then I've not brought the thread online nor I know what's happening in the background. Hence, You can't pinpoint towards me being ignorant.

I've sent a PM to P-F1 Mod for locking that thread as well.

Drama much? UnlikeUday has opened virtually every new car thread in this forum. A bit rich to call him ignorant, I enjoy his threads.

This has to be the least complex car of the lot revealed so far. Not many body and aero developments seen on launch car. They are either keeping things close to the chest or they are well behind in the development. Could be mix of both.

Without starting WWIII & in all fairness to owenmahamilton, it's the 2nd time in 2 days there's been this issue, the first being the TR unveiling thread now this one & while, like you, I enjoy & appreciate most of UnlikeUday's contributions, he (i'm assuming UnlikeUday's a he, apologies if i'm wrong) doesn't hold a mortgage on creating new threads.

Agree with your thoughts on the ignorant comment though. That was uncalled for.

For all we know they created the threads at the same time... It happens a lot, you try to reply and someone else has replied in the same comments in the same minute for example.

I wasn't aware of the first incident so I guess there is a point to be made. I just found it uncalled for like you said. In any case, UnlikeUday has been creating many threads and nice topics, I have never seen him (my assumption too!) trolling or doing anything out of order. Nor claiming mortgage either! The reaction was just a bit too much I thought, that's all.

Anyway, the other thread is closed, so we can move on.

Honestly it's maybe my favorite livery so far. It feels like McLaren have finally turned over a new leaf. They seem to have finally let go of the glory days and embraced their current position and the challenge of trying to get to the top. Ron Dennis is now long gone and they will no longer be out of tune with their drivers. Having Alonso just made no sense, considering where they were in the pecking order, and now they have two drivers who are very much in the same type of position that the team are; hungry to prove themselves.

As far as the car itself; it's hard to say. Looks perhaps a bit thicker at the back than what we've seen from the likes of Mercedes and Red Bull. Also they don't seem to have nearly the level of sophistication with regards to the barge boards, etc. It's too early to say anything for sure but my first impression is that they will not suddenly be up front fighting for wins this year.

Seems the rumours from a while ago were pretty accurate with the new larger airbox,RB-style sidepods and longer wheelbase. Quite like the livery but the race suits are weird AF lol.

Hopefully they can recover well and keep Renault honest for 4th but it'll be tough considering where they were last year and driver line up swinging in Enstone's favour but at the very least a solid recovery and foundations laid for Seidl and Key to help build on is a must.

Are we going to see a big Fanta decal on those sidepods? Coke are still listed as a sponsor/partner but not on the car yet and the sidepod area has been kept blank for good reason so maybe some discussions about just what level of sponsorship Coke are offering right now?

Or its just been left blank to help entice a different one and we'll see coke on the also currently blank bargeboards come testing or Melbourne.

Whole lot going on with the aero, but they slickly did so in the simplest of ways. The rear is wider but the way it tapers down in such a sleek sweeping manor, and how much of the components are somewhat unexposed, how the bottom of the side pods don’t taper in nearly as much as has been the trend for a very long time now, how much more tapered the nose dips down, and the shape of their floor is vastly different from anything we’ve seen in some time.

I can see the philosophy behind the entire aero approach and I hope they’ve figured out how to get all their concepts to work in unison rather than separate bits all clawing for independent performance gains to help a difficult car become more manageable, or less difficult to drive. The rear suspension looks interesting and lastly, the intakes on the front of the side pods resemble one of their previous designs from one of their championship contending cars.

I’m HOPING what my mechanical brain sees in this car is correct and that everything works and melds together they way is see it. It is a beautifully designed car with some of the best attention to detail I’ve seen from McLaren in some time. Loving the livery as well and the overalls!… we need more COLOR on race suits people!!!

To be honest, my impression with these pre-season reveals is that the reactions almost universally reflect the preexisting beliefs of the person making them, not any sort of technical knowledge. If Mercedes had unveiled the exact same car in their livery, I'm confident we'd see very few people saying it looks slow and unsophisticated and far more praising how aggressive and quick it looks. At least 99% of people commenting - here, or anywhere else - don't really know what makes an F1 car fast. They know McLaren has been slow lately, and they read that into whatever they see on the car.

I agree with this, it's why I find these car launches really quite meaningless and uninteresting. None of us (or at least very few) actually understand the aero on these cars well enough to judge whether it "looks" fast, and even those who might be able to will still have trouble judging the cars that are being launched because they won't have the final aero package on them anyway.

Besides, we don't need to look at the McLaren to know that it'll be slow :-P

The livery looks good, and several parts of the car look a lot different than last year's car, so that hopefully bodes well. The race suit design is a little weird, but hey, at least it's not just white... :-P

I think it's the best looking car on the grid - and not just because I'm a Macca fan, because I've hated some of the recent ones! But I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that.

I do wonder if there's ever been a livery that nobody thought was ugly. Probably not! :o

Probably my favourite livery from the pics so far but looking forward to deciding again once I've seen them all on track.

Some good observations. Their philosophy seems sound. Not a huge departure from the big boys but they don't seem to be on the bleeding edge. I only hope that they haven't made a critical error like last year that cannot be cured without a redesign.

Originally I had this behind the Mercedes. The more I look at it the better it gets. The overall chassis design also just looks very tidy and pleasing. Will it go fast???

Great video by Marc Priestley on the new car and also touches on the fundamental flaw last years car had, namely a tyre wake issue caused by the too short a distance between the front axle and sidepod. In a straight line it produced stable d/f but when turning in the corner the d/f was lost. There was talk of having to move the engine forward for the switch to Renault which ate into their bargeboard space last year iirc so sounds like they messed that bit up.

The instability on corner entry must have been rough which might at least partly explain why Stoff did so badly as well. I remember wondering why they removed all the updates they had on the leading edge of the floor/tea tray from Spain onwards and looks like they were trying to find where the issue lay. Once discovered it was too late in the season for an entire new car so they switched focus to this year.
